The Lake Chelan School District has an opening for a Special Education Teacher position for the 2026-2027 school year.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated educator for a 0.5 FTE Special Education position for the 2026-2027 school year.
This role serves students from Preschool through 1st Grade, focusing on providing high-quality instructional support in small group settings and advocating for and supporting inclusion to the greatest extent possible in the general education setting.
Essential Skills & Responsibilities:
- Firm understanding of best instructional strategies and assessment practices
- Experience writing and implementing, and monitoring all IEPs for students on the caseload, ensuring all state and federal Special Education laws are followed.
- Strong ability to work collaboratively with staff and parents to support students.
- Responsible for developing, maintaining and refining programming for students.
- Experience with effective behavioral strategies and a proven ability to work with students with a variety of adaptive needs.
- Must have excellent communication skills both verbal and written, positive attitude and love for working with students with differing ability levels.
- Must be able to work with multiple-age groupings of students.
- Must be able to handle challenging situations with students, staff, and parents.
- Adaptive Care: Must be comfortable with feeding, toileting, diapering, restraining, lifting, and working hands-on with disabled students that may not be able to meet their own needs.
- May require prolonged sitting or standing.
- Attendance, punctuality, and excellent time management are critical functions of this position.
Professional Qualifications and Essential Skills:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with K-12 Special Education endorsement.
- Highly effective status based on credential or state qualifying program.
- Understanding of instructional strategies and assessments practices.
- Working knowledge of WA-AIM Access Point Framework and Common Core Essential Standards.
- Experienced teacher working with special education children; ability to work well with a team of adults, develop lesson plans for students, supervise adult support to follow-through with plans and work with other teaching staff to meet the needs of students.
- Experience with writing and following the IEP as well as supporting general education staff to design and implement differentiated programming as appropriate.
- Must be able to work as part of a team and supervise placement of special education classified staff that support the program. Knowledge of Special Education rules (state and federal).
- Experience with effective behavioral strategies and supports for students.
- Must have excellent communication skills both verbal and written, positive attitude and love for working with students with differing ability levels.
- Proven ability for organization and meeting timelines. Must work well with students with a variety of adaptive needs. (feeding, toileting, diapering, restraining, lifting, and handling disabled students)
- May require prolonged sitting or standing. Attendance and punctuality are important functions for this position.
- Effective organizational and time management skills.
- Familiar with instructional best practices.
- Experience working with multi-age groupings.
