Job Title: Junior High Art Teacher
Reports To: Campus Principal
Position Overview
The Junior High Art Teacher is responsible for developing and delivering engaging visual arts instruction to students in grades 6–8. This role fosters creativity, artistic expression, and an appreciation for art history while supporting students’ academic and personal growth in a positive classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver standards-based art lessons that align with district and state curriculum guidelines
- Teach a variety of art techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media
- Introduce students to art history, cultural influences, and notable artists
- Create a classroom environment that encourages creativity, respect, and self-expression
- Assess student progress through projects, critiques, and participation
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs and skill levels of students
- Maintain organization and inventory of art supplies and equipment
- Display student artwork and organize exhibitions or school art shows
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to support interdisciplinary learning
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and behavior
- Ensure a safe and clean classroom environment, following all safety guidelines
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field
- Valid state teaching certification (or ability to obtain)
- Knowledge of middle school curriculum and instructional strategies
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to inspire and engage students with varying artistic abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous teaching experience at the middle or junior high level
- Experience with digital art tools and technology integration
- Familiarity with art competitions, exhibitions, or community art programs
Work Environment
- Classroom setting with exposure to art materials and tools
- Requires standing, walking, and occasional lifting of supplies (up to 25 lbs)
- May involve after-school events such as art shows or school programs
