This position is part of VOAPA’s maternal health expansion in SWPA. The Assistant Maternal Health Support Worker will serve both Beaver and Butler Counties providing part-time, in-home and community-based support to support mothers during pregnancy and the postpartum period (up to 18 months) through in-home visits, community-based meetings, and care coordination.
The role focuses on building trusting relationships with families, supporting access to healthcare and social services, and promoting maternal and infant well-being. This position offers a professional development pathway, with the opportunity to transition into an Assistant Maternal Community Health Worker role after training and successful performance.
Assistants will work closely with the Lead Maternal Health Worker, Health Director, and Area Director while supporting a small caseload during the startup phase.

Scope of Duties
1. Participate in training and shadowing with Lead Maternal Health Worker.
2. Meet with assigned mothers (in-home and community) to provide basic support and referrals.
3. Assist with screening for social determinants of health (SDOH) needs such as transportation, housing, and healthcare access.
4. Promote maternal health by encouraging postpartum checkups, wellness visits, and healthy parent-child interaction.
5. Provide basic health education and support, including family planning guidance if requested.
6. Help clients connect with primary care physicians, insurance, and social services.
7. Document visits, maintain accurate case notes, and report progress to supervisor.
8. Provide transportation assistance when appropriate.
9. Participate in team meetings and trainings.
10. Represent VOAPA in a professional and respectful manner with families and community partners.

Minimum Qualifications
• Current Direct Support Professional (DSP) with VOAPA, in good standing.
• High school diploma or equivalent (some college or health/social service training preferred).
• Valid PA driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel locally.
• FBI fingerprints, Pennsylvania State Police, and Child Abuse clearances required.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; bilingual ability is a plus.
• Lived experience in maternal/child health, caregiving, or related fields encouraged
