Job Description

About the Department

This position will serve as Chair of Speech & Hearing Sciences while providing academic, administrative, and strategic leadership for the department. The position is a 9-month contract with a summer stipend for June, July, and August. This role ensures the program meets accreditation standards, fosters excellence in teaching and research, and supports faculty, staff, and student success.

Special Note: We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship now or in the future. 

Position Duties

1.Leadership & Administration:

  • Oversee all aspects of program operations, including budgeting, staffing, and strategic planning.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies and accreditation standards (e.g., CAA).
  • Represent the department in college and university committees and initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement
2.Teaching & Scholarship:
  • Teach courses in areas of expertise within the department curriculum.
  • Maintain an active program of scholarly and/or creative activity.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research and professional development.
3.Academic Oversight:
  • Lead curriculum development and assessment to ensure alignment with industry standards and student learning outcomes.
  • Supervise faculty teaching assignments and course scheduling.
  • Support faculty development and mentorship.
4.Accreditation & Compliance:
  • Maintain program accreditation by ensuring adherence to CAA standards.
  • Oversee program assessment and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare and submit accreditation reports and documentation.
5.Student Engagement:
  • Support student recruitment, retention, and advising efforts.
  • Promote student involvement in professional organizations and service learning.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
    • Doctoral degree in an area relevant to health professions education or practice (PhD, EdD, AuD)
    • An academic terminal degree in an area relevant to health professions education or practice (Ph.D, Ed.D, AUD)
    • Graduate degree in speech-language pathology, communication sciences and disorders, and/or audiology.
    • Eligible to hold a State of Texas license as a speech-language pathologist and /or audiologist (or ability to gain licensure within 6 months of hire).
    • Evidence of scholarly achievement, including published research within peer-reviewed professional journals.
    • Teaching and service records of achievement commensurate with appointment at the associate professor or professor level.
    • Leadership experience with an academic program and/or department, including curricular evaluation and design, accreditation, and strategic planning.
Desired Qualifications: 
    • Experience managing budget and finance.
    • Experience with accreditation, annual reporting, and curriculum design specific to current CAA and Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CFCC) standards.
    • Experience in departmental, university, and professional leadership as well as a history of building alliances or partnerships within an academic institution and/or with community and regional entities.
    • Excellent communication skills and leadership based on developing and maintaining collaborative and team building culture.
