A Direct Support Professional works under the direction of the Program Supervisor to support and assist with providing direction and support to program participants in their day-to-day activities, services, and goals.
Functions:
Create and carry out a schedule of activities that enhance core skills such as, but not limited to, communication and socialization, self-advocacy, hygiene and grooming, knowledge of available community resources, health and wellness, housekeeping and travel and safety skills.
Acclimate and orient individuals served to community-based volunteer sites as well as review all safety precautions and preparedness routines.
Train individuals in tasks expected at volunteer sites when indicated. Develop, create, and implement coaching strategies to expedite skill acquisition for those served, and always maximize independence.
Ensure the well-being and safety of all individuals served, including providing travel training skills to and from community-based locations.
Help maintain a sanitary and safe environment both in the facility and at community routine placements. Report all equipment and/or maintenance needs in a timely manner.
Document services provided in compliance with agency, local, state and federal regulations within expected time frames.
Drive participants to and from activities throughout the day.
Attend team meetings, professional development opportunities and parent conferences.

Requirements:
• High School Diploma/GED and increased experience working with individuals with disabilities in community-based settings
• Clean and valid NYS Driver’s License
