Materials Manager
The Materials Manager’s role is to manage, coach, and lead a logistics team (material handlers, shippers, receivers,
and expeditors) and material planner(s) to ensure KPIs are achieved in a pro-associate environment. Key functions are determining how much and what type of materials and products to hold where in the supply chain which includes: managing inventory control, warehouse, distribution and replenishment plans. Holds overall responsibility for all logistics operations ensuring customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
- Review daily inventory activity to ensure targets are on track to be met.
- Manage, monitor, and report Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for the materials department.
- Lead and develop the materials team, driving accountability and high performance.
- Improve existing processes and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to support production and supply chain needs.
- Supporting the development of integrated warehousing strategies that align with the team’s long-term plans, ensuring sustainable competitive advantages.
- Monitor and manage working capital while ensuring no production interruption.
- Monitor and maintain warehouse utilization and management.
- Controls inventory levels by conducting physical counts; reconciling with data storage system.
- Establish and maintain budgets, targets, and objectives that meet overall business goals.
- Ensure delivery on time as per customer request.
- Work closely with scheduling to prevent shortage issue.
- Plan or implement efficient outbound/inbound material flow management systems to reduce manpower requirements, increase customer shipment accuracy, meet production requirements, and allow for FIFO.
- Track and address recurring process, system and human resource issues and work toward viable solutions.
- Communicates with and coaches all Logistics and planning associates to ensure compliance with all plant, and Occupational Health and Safety policies.
- Performs all duties of a manager as outlined in the Internal Responsibilities section of the AirBoss Health & Safety program manual.
- Participate in monthly safety talks.
- Audit plant systems for compliance to safety regulations, ISO9000 standards and plant policy.
- Communicate company policy, decisions, and change positively and directly.
- Audit and administer the constructive discipline system with fairness and consistency.
- Manage and execute projects related to warehouse optimization, material flow improvements, or system/process.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Required Experience, Education, and Skills:
- Related education/experience in warehouse management and material flow.
- Minimum of five years of experience in supply chain environment (preferably in a warehouse, logistics, transportation, or distribution).
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
- Proven leadership experience with a focus on accountability and team. development Knowledge of relevant employment legislation.
- Familiarity with Lean, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience in implementing and sustaining change.
- Continuous improvement mind-frame.
- Proficient in Excel.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Material flow analysis experience.
- Strong attention to detail.
