Position Summary - Conducts field visits to industrial/commercial users of PVSC’s treatment facility to inspect, sample, gather flow data, and verify adherence to PVSC’s rules & regulations.  Visits water utilities to gather consumption data for billing purposes, participates in investigations involving sewer clogs, and protects public health and the environment by identifying and halting pollution from discharges into the Passaic River, its tributaries, and other waters of the State.







Education: High School Diploma and two (2) years of college and/or technical training in a related field.  Equivalent experience may be substituted for the college requirement. 

Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of work experience within PVSC’s Pretreatment Program along with comprehensive knowledge of the rules and regulations concerning discharges to the PVSC treatment works.

Requirements: Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.  Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, demonstrate good organizational skills, and develop effective work methods.  Must have the ability to ascertain, observe, and record significant facts, and prepare accurate and informative reports containing findings and conclusions. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers and representatives of industrial and commercial users.  Must understand applicable agency, federal, and state rules, regulations and safety practices, as well as have knowledge of various manufacturing processes and the proper procedures for disposing of industrial wastes. Knowledge of proper wastewater sampling techniques, flow measurement, and pretreatment monitoring equipment is also necessary.

Physical Demands: Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation to ensure the health and safety of oneself and others are maintained. To perform the essential functions of this position the employee must be able to sit, stand, walk, stoop, climb (including ladders), kneel, lift up to 50 lbs., carry, reach, push, pull, use a keyboard and use tools.  Must qualify for and possess the ability to perform entry into confined spaces while wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as, but not limited to, canister and dust masks, as well as Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), in compliance with PVSC's Facial Hair Grooming Policy.

Working Conditions: Workers are employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system and will be required to work indoors and outdoors.

The expected base pay range for this position is $88,507 to $122,150.  The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, qualifications, education, training, and formal credentials.
