    Title I Teacher

     

     

    Directly Responsible to:   Building Principals

    Position Summary:  The scope of this responsibility shall include, but not be limited to, classroom instruction, curriculum development & delivery, district-wide teamwork and community relations.

    The Title I Teacher  must be able to exercise a high degree of initiative and professional judgment in accomplishing the aims of the district's education program, and carrying out the policies adopted by the Board of Trustees and the directives issued by the Building Principal.The Title ITeacher is responsible for the development of  academic improvement of students that will  meet the goals of School District #9.  This educator will work closely with School District #9's Title I students to achieve the goal of improved academic performance.  This is a position which will necessitate working one-on-one, in small groups, as an after-school tutor and in-class with students needing additional academic assistance.  The educator hired for this position will be a liaison between our economically disadvantaged students, teachers, administrators and parents/guardians. The focus of this position will be to improve the academic standing of students who are falling behind in reading and math.  The Title I Teacher will be skilled at tapping students' family resources in the teaching-learning process by encouraging students to develop improved learning skills and with assisting teachers to more effectively reach out to economically disadvantaged students to improve their academic achievement. 

    Desired Minimum Qualifications:                

    1. Valid Teaching Certificate with K � 8 endorsement.
    2. Demonstrates an understanding of child and adolescent developmental and cultural  issues.
    3. Ability to relate to and work with children and/or adolescents.
    4. Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
    5. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents, staff, and the community.
    6. Ability to handle stressful situations.
    7. Ability to work cooperatively as a team member with staff and administration.
    8. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.
    9. Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.

     

    Essential Functions & Duties:

    1.  Plans and develops course of study suitable for Title I students for curriculum delivery that meets all state and federal requirements

    2.  Attends and participates in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, IEP meetings, and other meetings as required

    3.   Develops individually or collaboratively with classroom teachers for the presentation of specific lesson plans, using a variety of means, including lectures, projects, group discussions,     exhibits, field trips, audio-visual and library resources, computers, and the Internet

    4.  Teaches skills, knowledge, and positive attitudes utilizing appropriate learning activities, assignments and projects 

    5.  Provides an appropriate educational program for each identified student on the case load that  is struggling academically or socially

    6.  Instructs individuals and groups in academic skill areas

    7. Plans and implements specific teaching lessons and strategies that are based on assessments of student needs and that address circumstances that warrant individual and small group instruction including planning curriculum, lessons, specialized programs and teaching methods as appropriate

    8. Monitors students' progress in and outside the regular education classroom.

    9. Maintains regular contact with parents of identified students.

    10Prepares assignments and tests for in-school preparation and homework as appropriate.

    11. Evaluates each pupil's growth in knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors in reference to what is being taught, and corrects and grades student progress based on work output, observations, individual goals, objectives, and directions

    12. Compiles data from report cards, educational records, IEP forms, classroom observation records, and other district data forms

    13. Consults with other professionals and teaching staff regarding progress of students and related educational matters

    14Monitors, assists, corrects, and grades student performances collaboratively with classroom teachers.

    15.  Maintains order individually or collaboratively with classroom teachers in the classroom and administers discipline when necessary to achieve proper behavior.  May prescribe detention, or loss of playground privileges in cases of student misconduct.

    1. Shares with other teachers and aides lunchroom duties and responsibility for monitoring halls, supervision of discipline as necessary.
    2. Counsels special education, regular education and identified students when academic difficulties or behavioral problems arise.
    3. Keeps records of academic performance, attendance, and social acclimation.     
    4. Conducts standardized tests in accordance with District policies and law.
    5. Reports on all aspects of student development for school records and parents; conducts parent-teacher conferences on both a regularly scheduled and an as-needed basis.
    6. Consults with other professionals, where there appears to be evidence of learning difficulties or problems of social adjustment.  Coordinates decisions with parents concerning any specialized intervention which appears warranted.
    7. Shares facilities and provides basic maintenance, troubleshooting, computer education and usage among staff and students.
    8. Reports cases of suspected child abuse according to state law.
    9. Complies with Board policies, rules, regulations, and directives.
    10. Recommends promotion and/or placement of students in appropriate classroom situation for ensuing year.
    11. Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, professional training seminars, and workshops.
    12. Supervises students, classroom aides, paraprofessionals and volunteers.
