Summary/Objective: The Flexible Packaging Engineer is responsible directly, or through subordinates for the development of Engineering for new shrink label projects, research and implementation of new laboratory equipment / production machinery, as well as assist with the purchasing process. The Flexible Packaging Engineer works closely with the PE Technical group, Technical Field Service, Graphic Arts Department, Customer Service, Label Sales, Machine Sales, Ink Development, Sustainability Engineers, Maintenance, and Production in the development of their activities
Specific Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Coordinates the development of technical specifications for new products, including the selection of appropriate film, template design, ink selection, etc.

Participates in customer meetings to share data on new products, processes and other manufacturing issues

Deep understanding of production shrink process, specifically application, and shrink. Must understand proper shrink tunnel adjustments, and setup styles for differing containers, and differing shrink styles.

Ability to operate equipment in the PE Conversion/ Digital printing area, so not to rely on the PE groups for developmental needs.

Creates and applies better testing procedures to analyze internal manufacturing and quality processes.

Works closely with Sales to support new product development activities.

Assists production with resolving and understanding technical issues as requested by the Plant / Production Managers; provides support to production during “new” or first time runs of inks, films, glues, machinery, etc., for first time runs until process stability and understanding is achieved. As well as continued follow up support to ensure smooth production operation.

Daily support of our Shrink Label Conversion Department, assisting with production issues, implementation of new customer needs, machinery, and industry developments. A strong relationship is needed with the Conversion Manager, Assistant Manager, Supervisors, Engineers, and production employees, focusing on quality product output, while maintaining trust, and respect for union employees.

Works closely with new / current suppliers to develop innovative ideas, materials, and processes.

Work to improve sustainability measures within our plant, and for our customer packaging, by understanding direction given by customers, to help them achieve a sustainable future by set dates, using desired processes, and materials.

Travels 10-20% of time depending on project workload. (Travel includes assistance in production equipment purchases, qualification trials, facility acceptance tests, and vendor/customer plant visits.)
