Job Description

OVERVIEW


The K–8 Summer Acceleration Teacher is responsible for providing targeted instruction to students in grades K–8 to strengthen foundational skills and promote academic growth in reading and mathematics. This role involves designing and delivering engaging, standards-aligned lessons, monitoring student progress, and providing individualized and small-group support to address learning gaps. The teacher fosters a structured, supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement, builds confidence, and accelerates learning within a focused timeframe. Additionally, the teacher collaborates with school staff, maintains accurate attendance and performance records, and communicates effectively with students and families to support academic progress.


GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Under the supervision of the Site Principal, the Summer Acceleration Teacher provides targeted instruction to K–8 students to reinforce foundational skills and support continued academic growth. Instruction is delivered in small groups and/or individualized settings to meet diverse learning needs. This position is contingent upon student enrollment and attendance.


 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Provide instruction aligned with grade-level standards in reading and mathematics, including ongoing assessment and progress monitoring.

  • Plan, develop, and implement engaging lesson plans that support skill development and academic acceleration.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners within a condensed timeframe.

  • Create a positive and structured learning environment that promotes student engagement and confidence.

  • Work collaboratively with summer program staff and administrators to support student success.

  • Comply with and enforce school rules, expectations, and school board policies and procedures.

  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and academic performance.

  • Communicate effectively with students and families regarding progress and expectations.

  • Attend all required summer program sessions, trainings, and meetings.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EVALUATION


Performance evaluation will be conducted using final student performance data (i.e. SOL performance and growth data)
