Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Production Engineering - Stamping Equipment Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Engineering Manager.

The primary responsibility of this role is to lead a diverse team of Engineers to develop the next generation of laser cutting equipment capable of meeting high volume throughput and high accuracy requirements in sheet metal blanking.

Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, the person in this role will support the Stamping Equipment department’s objective of becoming a global leader in laser cutting by leading a team to investigate, implement, and improve new laser and supporting equipment technology.

What you’ll be doing

  • Research, develop, and implement new laser cutting technologies through development of global strategic vendor partnerships

  • Develop roadmap from current press blanking conditions, identifying future developments required to achieve long-term strategy of laser blanking capability

  • Identify and lead installation of trial equipment to validate research results and identify ongoing kaizen requirements to meet project KPI’s

  • Develop and train new Engineers in laser cutting technology, research methods, equipment installation and commissioning, project management and the Toyota Way

  • Lead TMC laser cutting information sharing and kaizen development to build a partnership to establish a global equipment specification

  • Support onsite activities as needed during equipment work on weekends, holidays, and shutdown periods

What you bring

  • Master’s Degree in an Engineering field

  • Experience in Toyota mass production engineering

  • Toyota management experience with responsibility for direct reports

  • Laser Cutting experience with hands on experience trialing laser beam size, profile shapes, fiber diameters, assist gas parameters to achieve optimal cutting conditions for a range of material specifications

  • Experience leading project management of specification, installation, and commissioning of full press line equipment including un-coilers, levelers, washers, de-stackers, palletizers, material feed systems

  • Experience using Ryohin-Joken to establish a map of process capability, evaluating equipment capability, and using results to understand overall capability to meet production targets

  • Experience planning capital expenditure needs, write project budget justification documents, and manage project spending to meet budget allocation

  • Understanding of and exposure to Toyota Way, TPS, industry regulations, codes, and standards including ANSI, ASME, OHSA and NFPA, including shop floor implementation

  • Completion of Toyota Business Practice (TBP) through panel

  • On Job Development (OJD) completion

  • Ability to travel 50% (higher during peak times), both domestic and international
