Job Description Summary

We are currently looking for medical assistant or EMT candidates with professionalism and excellent communication skills who are motivated to work among our highly specialized team of nurses and providers. This position allows for travel among our three endoscopy centers located throughout the Treasure Valley: downtown Boise, Meridian, and our newest location in Nampa. We are a fast-paced, team-oriented ambulatory surgical center dedicated to providing exceptional patient care throughout their endoscopic procedures. We offer staff an exciting and rewarding work environment in the specialized field of GI with on-the-job training for the endoscopy technician position.

General Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the physician and in collaboration with other team members, the MA provides direct and indirect patient care in accordance with certification requirements, professional standards of care, state of Idaho regulations, AAAHC accreditation standards, and Idaho Gastroenterology’s philosophy, policies and procedures. 

Other Responsibilities:

1.      Collect and record patient data when assisting with the admission, recovery, and discharge of patients within the endoscopy center, excluding physical assessment and IV start

2.      Relay information from the patient to the nursing staff

3.      Assist in gathering additional records that would support patient treatment

4.      Complete health history intakes by phone with patients prior to the date of service

5.      Provide care to patients in recovery at the direction of the recovery nurse

6.      Call the patients the day after the procedure and document the conversation, relaying questions to the nursing staff

7.      Answer phones and direct calls to the appropriate staff

8.      Prepare procedure rooms for patient procedures. Disinfect and clean the procedure room following each procedure following infection control standards

9.      Assist in keeping the endoscopy center clean, tidy, and safe for patients, staff, and providers by following established standards and procedures; and complying with legal regulations

10.  Keep prep, procedure room, and recovery bays stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, and assist with proper sterilization of instruments. Properly dispose of contaminated supplies

11.  Participate in inventory management. Report low supply inventory to the charge nurse or scope tech.

12.  Assist with the maintenance of all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, expired medications, etc.)

17.  Utilize Microsoft Outlook email for non-patient correspondence and Epic for patient care correspondence/documentation.

18.  Demonstrate respect for IGA policies for security, privacy, and confidentiality while using IGA equipment.  Follow personnel policies contained within the IGA personnel manual

19.  Immediately report any network, hardware, or software malfunction to the IT Director or on-shift supervisor

20.  Maintain proficiency in scope technician responsibilities

21.  Seek educational opportunities and accept responsibility for own professional growth and development. Participates in training offered on-site, staff meetings, and other meetings as required

22.  Maintain the patient’s right to privacy by not discussing privileged information outside the work area or within hearing range of visitors/family or patient

23.  Maintain flexibility with assignments; able to work at all IGA endoscopy locations when needed

24.  Complete yearly competency modules and training as required

25.  Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Graduate of a Registered Medical Assistant program

·         Maintain Basic Life Support certification

·         Physical requirements include being able to lift up to 50 lbs., and able to tolerate normal sitting, pulling/pushing, kneeling, stooping, bending, reaching, talking, and hearing. Must be able to tolerate standing for prolonged periods. Must be able to respond to a medical emergency within 2 minutes
