Position Summary:
Organizes and implements high quality program(s) within the Youth Development Department.
Essential Functions
- Greet campers and parents with a smile.
- Assist with group activities, bathroom monitoring, changing for swim and
swim time, snack time and lunch. - Play and interact with campers and
promote the YMCA character traits. - Never assume complete control of a group.
- Be aware of your surroundings and always be safety conscious.
- Report any problems to a Team Leader or the Director.
- Interact with the children during games, activities, and programs – remember to come down to their level.
- Bring swimsuit every day.
- Aid in cleaning up areas after all activities.
- Be sure to supervise in the bathrooms always.
- Set the example – be a role model.
- Attend staff meetings and Family Night Activities.
- Know the YMCA character traits – Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Faith – and demonstrate them; discuss these with the campers when
appropriate. - Have respect for your co-workers and help one another – be sure to show the same respect to the campers.
- Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and Child and Adult Care Food Program
(CACFP)- Assist with meal service and meal counting under the direction of the site supervisor during participation in SFSP & CACFP.
- Attend annual training provided by sponsor
- Encourage the children to try new foods and engage them in conversation to increase participation.
- Have fun!
- Other duties as required.
Job Schedule: Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with varying shifts up to a maximum of 40 hours per week.
Qualifications
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Must know how to swim
- CPR certified or pass CPR certification class within 30 days of employment
- Experience preferred but not required
