Job Summary:
The Substitute Food Service Aide assists in the preparation, serving, and cleanup of meals in a cafeteria or institutional kitchen setting. This role is on an on-call basis and supports the regular food service team when permanent staff are absent. The ideal candidate is reliable, follows food safety guidelines, and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with preparing and serving meals and snacks to students/customers according to standardized recipes and portion sizes
- Set up and break down serving lines, steam tables, and dining areas
- Operate kitchen equipment (e.g., dishwashers, warmers) safely and efficiently
- Wash dishes, utensils, pots, and pans, and ensure proper sanitation
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, dining, and storage areas
- Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures as required by local, state, and federal guidelines
- Store leftovers and food items properly and label them according to safety standards
- Assist with inventory and restocking of supplies as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager or Lead
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in food service or cafeteria work is a plus but not required
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 30 pounds
- Must pass a background check and health screening if required
