Job Description

Qualifications:


Excellent musicianship and artistry as a teacher/performer


Strong understanding of brass pedagogy


Experience working with children from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds


Strong interpersonal and communication skills


Self-motivated and willing to collaborate in a team-teaching environment


At least 2 years of prior teaching experience preferred


Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Brass Performance.  Music Education Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred


 


Responsibilities:   Develop and teach engaging group brass lessons that:


Establish routines and encourage development of strong fundamental skills


Incorporate a variety of strategies (movement, ear training, music reading) and activities (exercises, games, demonstration, listening, etc)


Maintain excellent classroom management


Adapt to the needs of students at various levels and with various learning styles


Encourage peer teaching


Collaborating closely with the Administration and faculty to achieve program-wide learning goals


Maintaining a positive and nurturing classroom environment


Setting and maintaining high standards for student behavior and music learning


Enforcing program rules and policies


 


Terms of Employment:


Seasonal/Yearly Employment


Location: Somerville High School


$40 per hour worked


Mandatory Orientation and Professional Development Days: TBD


 


Program Schedule:


Monday through Friday


Start Date: July 20, 2026 


End Date: July 31, 2026


Hours: 8:30am - 12:30pm


 


Position Reports to: Summer Music Camp Director
