Salary: Pay for this position is determined by the 177-Day Special Services Licensed Salary Schedule and based on education and experience $64,253-$94,739

Purpose of the Job: The District Nurse shall assume responsibility for program planning, coordination and implementation of student health services. The District Nurse shall observe, consult with and assist other school personnel regarding the various health-related needs of students, both those enrolled in regular and special education programs. The District Nurse shall serve as a liaison between the school and community-based medical/health service providers and agency representatives. Will be responsible for collaboration with Licensed Nurse Practitioner or any other assigned Registered Nurses in scheduling and providing Sexual Health instruction throughout the district.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Minimum BA/BS
Experience: Such qualifications as the Superintendent may require
Licenses/Certificates: Must hold a State of Colorado Registered Nursing License and be licensed with the Department of Education (Special Service License)

- Must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check and be cleared

- Physical capabilities to be able to: a) stand, sit and/or move about for sustained periods, b) move about in non-traditional instructional environments (i.e. areas of the community), c) report to multiple work sites in a given day or during the work week, d) communicate effectively in person and via telephone and other electronic media to individuals and groups of varying sizes, e) exercise physical control over students who are acting out and/or offer physical assistance to students who might themselves by physically impaired, f) conduct instructional programs within pre-designated break periods and time schedules, and g) maintain an appropriate personal demeanor during periods of heightened stress created by outside factors not always within the ability of the District Nurse to control at the time.
- Implements appropriate physical and technical safeguards to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of district data.
- Maintains good security practices with passwords and accounts to the various district systems and applications.
- Reports actual or suspected breaches in the confidentiality, integrity or availability of district data to appropriate district personnel.
- Follows all board policies for acceptable use of district technology.

- Responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating and evaluating school health services, policies and procedures
- Identify the health care needs of the student population and secure information/resources to meet those needs
- Maximize the quantity of in-class time by reducing incidents of health related absenteeism which impair learning
- Promote the highest degree of independent functioning possible among students and health technicians, and willing to delegate nursing tasks under his/her license to the building-level health technicians
- Collaborate in a positive manner with a wide variety of school professionals to enhance the educational process and promote an optimal level of wellness for students, families and staff
- Assure the district is in compliance with mandated health service activities
- Assure that health-related policies and related procedures adhere to legal and regulatory requirements and ethical standards of nursing practice
- Document, compile and analyze data for required reports on school health services, then utilize such data for the improvement of school health services
- Assure that school health services and activities are appropriately documented according to professional school nurse standards
- Implement communicable disease control in the school, including monitoring, surveillance and participating in disease prevention and outbreak management within the school
- Serve as the health care consultant for school personnel, students and their parents/families
- Provide professional health leadership to administrators and school staff
- Develop training for, train and monitor staff that provide health services, including delegated procedures, the administration of medication to students, First Aid/CPR/First Responder, and other health related mandated activities
- Provides Sexual Health instruction to students in classroom
- Participate in the development of the school’s emergency health and crisis plans
- Work in collaboration with the Director of Special Services/Federal Programs and medical providers to coordinate health services for children with Special Needs
- Develop individual health care plans and emergency action plans for students at risk of medical crisis or in need of invasive procedures performed during the regular school day
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong technical and computer skills and able to learn innovative software programs
- Ability to effectively supervise, evaluate and coach building-level health technicians
- Demonstrate ability to develop positive relationships with staff, students, parents and community
- Support school administration to foster a healthy, collaborative working relationship with health technicians at the school.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Assigns, supervises and oversees the work of the LPN and Building-level Health Technicians. In collaboration with building principals for input, evaluates Building Health Techs, LPN.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work in a school setting. Travel from site to site may occasionally; be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment ranges is generally quiet with occasional increase when working events or with equipment. Must be able to work in person.
Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to analyze and compute. Frequently required to compare, communicate, coordinate, instruct, evaluate, use interpersonal skills and compile. Occasionally required to copy, synthesize and negotiate.
