    Pre-Kinder Classroom Instructional Assistant
     

    The position of Pre-Kinder Classroom Instructional Assistant will be available at East Central Independent School District for the 2026-2027 school year.  All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. The deadline for submitting an application is until the position is filled.  

    Primary Purpose:  Provide instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing classroom activities.  
    Essential Job Functions:

    1. Work directly with students in the pre-kindergarten classrooms.
    2. Provide instruction to students under the direction of the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
    3. Assist teacher in preparing instructional material and classroom displays.
    4. Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
    5. Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
    6. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
    7. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
    8. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
    9. Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
    10. Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside, and outside the classroom.  This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
    11. Keep the teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
    12. Coordinate with the classroom teacher(s) to identify techniques and materials appropriate for use with each child.
    13. Keep detailed records of time and effort with each child.
    14. Assist teachers in program development and in preparation/acquisition of materials.
    15. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
    16. Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
    17. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibilities and requirements of the supplemental position and its affiliated Pre-Kindergarten program.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education/Certification:
    High school diploma or GED
    Must have one of the following:

    • 48 college hours with some emphasis on child growth or development or related area
    • Treasuring our paraprofessionals Certificate

    Valid Texas educational aide certificate
    Special Knowledge/Skills:
    Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics
    Ability to work well with children
    Ability to communicate effectively
    Experience:
    Some experience working with children  


    Equipment Used:  Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment  
    Working Conditions:  Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:  Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions.  Work prolonged or irregular hours.  Frequent standing, stooping, walking, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); regular exposure to noise.  Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) and positioning of students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; assist non-ambulatory students and lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment. Exposure to biological hazards.

    Salary:   Paraprofessional Support Pay Grade 201, State Compensatory Education
