Position Description: Supervisor of Finishing

Department: Production

Organizational Relationship: Reports directly to the Director of Production Operations

Job Type: Full-Time Non-Exempt

Shift: Day Shift Monday – Friday (7am-3:30pm)

Additional hours will be required based on needs and deadlines

 

Essential Functions of this Role: Position is Onsite 


This Key role requires a process-driven Supervisor of Finishing to establish process   

improvements by assisting in communicating the daily schedules and station labor tracking, and 

quality control. This person will provide key documentation for the Finishing processes and 

lead/supervise a growing team of 20-40 employees.

Leadership duties involve supervising and evaluating the performance and skills of

leads and employees, documenting and participating in coaching and disciplinary actions as 

needed.


Required  Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in manufacturing with at least 3 years in a supervisor/lead role in a boat manufacturing facility.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a successful team.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate across departmental boundaries.
  • Hands-on experience finishing and repairing fiberglass components using spray gun, buffer, polish, compound putty and other required fillers.
  • Determine and select material abrasive production requirements and comply with grinding and polishing standards.
  • Complete the finishing process as required by production – remove scratches, fill voids, apply new finish, etc.
  • Experience with various resins, gel-coats, fiberglass materials, foam and other adhesives.
  • Operate light hand power tools not limited to paint spray gun, buffer, sanders, drills, grinders, hoists and additional specialty tools as required for production.
  • Check and inspect, using a knowledge of fiberglass, for conformity and repair discrepancies if detected,
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management, supervisors and/or management,
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Create and follow schedules while communicating any changes to operations.
  • Works with engineering department on the introduction of new models on the production line.
  • The ability to adapt quickly to changes and make the correct adjustments for the production line.
  • Able to create the foundation that the Finishing department will be built upon to manage needed growth.
  • Assess strengths and weaknesses of team and seek to hire for upgraded or missing skills. 

 

Working Conditions: 

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements include dust masks, gloves, safety glasses.
  • Work in a hot and humid non-climate-controlled environment.
  • Ability to work outside.
  • Ability to work shift standing, bending, reaching, climbing on and through stairs, and molds, throughout the duration of your shift.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, moderately noisy environment.
  • Have the flexibility to work overtime to meet company goals.

Physical Requirements:

  • Moderate lifting ability up to 50 lbs.
