OPEN POSITION:
Medical Spanish Interpreter
(Part-Time, Evening-Shift/Per Diem)
Othello Community Hospital is seeking a compassionate and professional Spanish Interpreter to join our team in a Part-Time/Per Diem capacity. This non-benefit earning position plays a vital role in supporting Spanish-speaking patients by facilitating accurate and culturally sensitive communication between patients and healthcare providers.
- Location: Othello Community Hospital, Othello, WA
- Schedule: Must be available for rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, and on-call coverage.
- Status: Part-Time, Evening-Shift/ Per Diem (Non- Benefit Earning)
- Hours: 24 hours per pay period – one week per month (with on-call availability)
- Wage Range: Depending on Experience $18.86-$35.16/hour
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide face-to-face Spanish interpretation services for patients, families, and staff.
- Translate written and verbal communication accurately between English and Spanish.
- Ensure patients clearly understand medical information, treatment plans, discharge instructions, and other essential communications.
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be bilingual in Spanish and English, with strong written and verbal proficiency.
- Strong customer service, communication, and computer skills required.
- Must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to multitask effectively.
- Must be available for rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, and on-call coverage.
- On-call shifts are from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
- Must complete and pass the ALTA Language Online Exams with a score of 7 or higher in the following four assessments:
1) English Interpretation Code of Ethics
2) Spanish-English Consecutive Interpretation Test – Medical
3) Spanish-English Translation Test – Medical
4) English-Spanish Translation Test – Medical
COMPENSATION:
Pay: Depending on Experience
- Certified Interpreter (DSHS Certificate – State Certified):
Starting at $19.86 – $35.16/hour - Qualified Interpreter (ALTA Language):
Starting at $18.86 – $34.16/hour
WORK SCHEDULE:
- 24 hours per pay period (approximately one week per month)
- Additional on-call shifts as needed
