Summary
The Field Application Engineer (FAE) serves as the primary technical liaison between Positronic and its customers, providing expert-level support during the product evaluation and design-in process. This role focuses on delivering responsive, value-driven solutions for customer projects, securing design wins, and supporting the field sales team with application knowledge. The FAE collaborates closely with engineering, quality, supply chain, and operations teams to ensure seamless communication and high-quality service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical expert on Positronic’s interconnect product lines and their applications.
- Respond to customer inquiries via phone, email, web chat, or live support platforms.
- Provide technical data, analysis, and best-value solutions to support customer designs.
- Manage assigned Project Request Forms (PRFs) from initiation through design-win.
- Collaborate with internal departments to resolve technical challenges and meet customer needs.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
- Travel to customer sites as needed for application support, design reviews, or product qualification.
- Conduct training webinars and in-person sessions for sales staff, partners, and distributors.
- Maintain accurate, timely communication and follow-up for all assigned projects.
- Participate in technical marketing efforts and product positioning.
- Support the sales team in coordinating design wins and application success.
- Uphold Positronic’s standards of integrity, quality, and operational excellence.
- Identify hazards in the workplace and report them to management and/or the safety coordinator.
- Collaborate with the EHS department to meet local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including OSHA, NFPA, DNR, EPA, and Amphenol sustainability practices.
- Work with the Quality department to ensure compliance with AS9100 certification standards.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Technical degree in engineering, electronics, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in application engineering or field sales in a technical industry.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Physical
- Long periods of sitting with frequent computer and phone use.
- Occasional travel, walking, and standing during customer visits or training sessions.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs. may be required when transporting samples or materials.
- Reaching, bending, and movement in technical environments such as labs or manufacturing floors.
Working Conditions
Work is primarily office-based or remote, with regular customer site visits. May include exposure to industrial environments requiring use of PPE. Must be comfortable engaging with technical and executive stakeholders in person, virtually, and in writing.
