Job Description

Description

ThePx3 Swim Coach is a part-time position in the Recreation Department Aquatics Division. Under the direct supervision of the Head Swim Coach, the primary responsibility of this position is to assist in the management of a major division of the Age Group program of the Pleasant Prairie Patriots (Px3). This includes assisting in program development and administration; athlete supervision; performance and attendance tracking; providing a winning atmosphere and attitude every day.  Must be available to coach practices and meets which are primarily held on nights and weekends.

 

Job Duties

  • Maintains the development of excellence in the Age Group program of Patriots Swimming.
  • Plans, oversees, and instructs practices and workouts with a safety minded approach under the direction of the Head Swim Coach.
  • Tracks team members’ success and results as well as take attendance.
  • Responds in a friendly and professional manner when dealing with participants, parents or patron inquiries, or complaints.
  • Applies science-based training methods approved by USA Swimming and the American Swim Coaches Association in core swimming training and stroke techniques and principles.
  • Leads by example and enforces all Village & Department rules, regulations, policies and procedures, and Village codes and ordinances. 
  • Performs other duties and special assignments as directed within the scope of the RecPlex and/or Aquatics Department.
  • Must exhibit a teamwork attitude and self-motivation, take the initiative to solve problems and innovate.

Requirements

 

Physical 

  • Requires frequent public interaction and the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. 
  • Work is performed in an indoor pool environment with exposure to warm temperatures and heavy humidity, slippery surfaces, water and pool chemicals.  The work requires long periods of attentiveness, swimming, jumping, diving, standing, sitting, pulling, pushing, reaching, carrying, cleaning, visual monitoring, verbal and written communication, hearing, moving about pool area, moderate lifting (15-50 lbs.), heavy public contact and exposure to stressful and emergency situations.

 

Educational, Certifications and Experience

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Level1: $12.00/hr-$15.00/hr

  • 16+ years of age
  • American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification and American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches required, OR American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification
  • Must have and maintain Coach Membership with USA Swimming and provide verification of completed background check course within past year. 
  • Must successfully complete and obtain Coaches Advantage, Concussion Protocol, Athlete Protection Training, and Foundations of Coaching (or equivalent) upon hire. 
  • Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills for working with a diverse population including other employees, public officials, and the general public. 
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered. 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Level 2: $16.00/hr-$20.00/hr
In addition to Level 1

  • 18+ years of age
  • 3+ years of coaching experience
  • Experience coaching athletes during both practices and swim meets
  • Experience writing and planning sets for practice
  • Available at least 3 evenings a week
  • Master’s certification or ASCA membership preferred
  • Special consideration will be given for specialized certifications or coaching experience (e.g.- collegiate coaching, Master’s certification)

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Level 3: $21.00/hr-$25.00/hr
In addition to Level 2

  • 8+ years of coaching experience
  • Ability to guide and train new coaches
  • Proficient in Team Unify functions
  • Familiarity with HY-TEK Meet Manager preferred
