High School ELA Teacher

Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate and dynamic High School English Teacher to inspire and engage students in the exploration of literature, language, and writing. Duties

• Develop and deliver engaging curriculum aligned with state standards and best practices in English education
• Create detailed lesson plans that incorporate diverse instructional methods, including technology-enhanced learning tools
• Facilitate classroom discussions that promote critical thinking, creativity, and respectful dialogue among students
• Assess student progress through formative and summative evaluations, including standardized testing preparation
• Provide constructive feedback on student writing assignments, essays, and projects to improve literacy skills
• Mentor students individually or in small groups to support their academic and personal development
• Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, school initiatives, and extracurricular activities related to journalism, creative writing, or literary clubs
• Manage classroom behavior effectively using positive reinforcement strategies and behavior management techniques
• Incorporate research-based instructional design principles to enhance learning outcomes in literacy education and language arts
• Engage with parents and guardians through conferences to discuss student progress and areas for improvement

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in English, Education, Linguistics, or a related field; Master's degree preferred
• Valid teaching certification for high school English or equivalent credentials
• Proven classroom experience with high school students in diverse educational settings
• Strong knowledge of curriculum development, AP style (Advanced Placement), Chicago Manual of Style, and copy editing techniques
• Expertise in lesson planning, instructional design, standardized testing preparation, and assessment strategies
• Familiarity with learning technology tools such as educational software, digital platforms, and library services
• Experience working with special education needs or implementing behavior management strategies is a plus
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to motivate students and collaborate effectively with colleagues and parents
• Demonstrated organizational skills to manage multiple classes, assignments, and extracurricular activities efficiently
• Knowledge of creative writing techniques, journalism principles, research methodologies, and higher education teaching practices is desirable
