    Seeking Substitute Aides (Student Supervision) for the School City of Hobart. Positions are filled on an as-needed basis.

     

    Position Summary

    To provide student supervision and routine classroom support in the absence of the regular aide. The Substitute Aide helps maintain a safe, orderly, and supportive school environment, supervises students across assigned settings, assists with routine instructional activities, and communicates appropriately with school staff.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    • Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, arrival/dismissal areas, study halls, and other assigned school settings in accordance with teacher directions, school rules, and district expectations.
    • Help maintain a safe, orderly, respectful, and supportive environment by monitoring student behavior, redirecting students as appropriate, and promptly reporting significant concerns to the teacher or administration.
    • Assist with routine instructional support by reinforcing teacher-directed activities, helping students remain on task, and providing individual or small-group assistance appropriate to the assignment.
    • Support classroom and school routines such as transitions, material preparation, distribution and collection of materials, and other non-certificated support duties assigned during the school day.
    • Communicate promptly with school staff regarding questions, student welfare issues, injuries, behavioral concerns, or situations requiring teacher or administrative support.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned by an administrator.

     

    Qualifications

    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the essential functions of the position.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
    • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and interact effectively with students, staff, parents, and the public.
    • Ability to work effectively with students of varying ages, needs, and abilities in different school environments.
    • Ability to remain calm, flexible, dependable, and responsive in a variety of school situations.

    Preferred:

    • Prior experience working with school-aged students, student supervision, classroom support, childcare, youth programs, or comparable experience.

     

    Terms of Employment

    This position is scheduled on an as-needed and as-available basis.

    FLSA Status

    Non-Exempt

    Pay Rate

    • $12.50 per hour.

    Benefits

    • This substitute position is not eligible for retirement or health insurance benefits.

     

    Physical Demands

    This position requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, supervise students, respond to student activity, move throughout school areas, occasionally work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

     

    Work Environment

    Work is performed primarily in a school setting, including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and other student activity areas. The position may occasionally require outdoor supervision, including recess duty, during varying weather conditions. The employee must be able to move throughout assigned areas and remain attentive to student safety at all times.
