Essential Job Functions
Performs inspection of the installation of new and/or replacement of sanitary and storm mainline sewers, laterals, service connections, and appurtenances. Maintaining daily reports and records of progress and performance on the assigned job. Recording of all measurements and tabulation of necessary data, including sewer pipe footage installed and tested, wye and lateral location log. Prepares sketches and as -built drawing, when necessary, to reflect final location and configuration of sewer and appurtenances. Conduct line acceptance testing of sewers as required . Communicate effectively with supervisor, contractors, engineers, city officials, and the general public.
Minimum Requirements
High school or vocational school graduate and ability to calculate fractions, decimals and percentages ; read and write common vocabulary; plus 600 hours training in construction practices and procedures (or 6 months experience); or any equivalent. Possess a valid State of Ohio Driver’s License; maintained in good standing.
Preferred Requirements:Experience in construction or sewer maintenance; must be familiar with the methods , practices, tools, materials and machinery used in the construction industry, especially the storm water and wastewater field. Knowledge in the use of a level and other related instruments for the verification of line and grade. Interpret and work from sketches, diagrams, construction plans, and Uniform Standards and Specifications for Sewer Construction . Knowledge of safe construction practices, occupational hazards and use of safety devices applicable to the construction industry.

This is a competitive, classified position. The Personnel Review Commission (PRC) will check your application to make sure you meet the minimum qualifications. If you do, the PRC will invite you to take a civil service examination. The exam is specific to this position. Everyone who passes the exam goes on an eligibility list. To fill this opening, the PRC sends the hiring department and Human Resources (HR) a certified eligibility list with the top 25% candidates (or at least the ten highest scoring candidates, whichever is greater). HR helps the hiring department decide who from the certified list to follow up with for interviews and then a job offer.
