Duties

As a General Engineer/Physical Scientist, you will: Lead and advise on extensive scientific and engineering programs and projects for the Department of Energy (DOE), especially those broad in scope or lacking clear precedents. Formulate and implement scientific and engineering initiatives to advance energy resources, environmental cleanup, new technologies, and energy production impacts. Provide expert technical advice and leadership to various stakeholders on complex scientific and engineering problems, evaluating emerging technologies and recommending solutions. Develop and implement guidance for complex scientific and engineering systems, projects, and programs within the DOE. Serve as a recognized technical expert in scientific and engineering fields, representing the DOE in interagency groups and conferences. Manage project plans, budgets, and schedules, ensuring adherence to DOE policy and effectively resolving highly technical challenges.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following: Leading and managing complex scientific or engineering projects and programs, particularly those without established precedents, from conception through successful execution, including defining objectives, allocating resources, and resolving significant technical hurdles. Serving as a primary technical authority or expert advisor, providing authoritative guidance and recommendations to senior leadership or major stakeholders on critical scientific or engineering matters, and provide technical advice for decisions that shape program direction and/or policy. Developing and implementing advanced scientific or engineering solutions, systems, or strategies that addressed novel and challenging technical problems, demonstrating the ability to assess new concepts, evaluate technological trends, and apply them to achieve significant organizational goals. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Limit your resume to no more than two (2) pages.
