Job Description

Interested in a career that matters?

Do you want to bridge the interface between R&D and IT and take end‑to‑end ownership of a scientific software platform with global impact? In Scientific Data Systems & Strategy (SDSS), we build and operate systems that give researchers seamless access to research data and modern analysis and visualization tools. Our solutions support core R&D activities such as genome sequencing and protein engineering across Novonesis’ global research organization.

You will join Scientific Data Applications, a department of 15 skilled colleagues working at the intersection of IT and biology. Together, we develop, operate, and maintain platforms that enable scientists and bioinformaticians worldwide to turn complex data into scientific insight and innovation value.

The Role & Your Impact

In this role, you will take end‑to‑end ownership of a core scientific software platform supporting genomics and proteomics. The role is roughly split 50/50 between hands‑on engineering and platform ownership, combining technical depth with stakeholder collaboration.

Your work will ensure that our platforms are robust, scalable, and well integrated across the R&D landscape, transforming ambiguous scientific needs into reliable, user‑friendly solutions that accelerate research and discovery.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as platform owner, accountable for roadmap, prioritization, and long‑term sustainability in close collaboration with stakeholders and your manager

  • Working hands‑on with the platform stack (e.g. Python, Linux, Hadoop/HBase, RabbitMQ, Solr) to design, implement, and improve solutions together with scientists, bioinformaticians, and software engineers

  • Owning the technical direction and providing prioritization recommendations that balance stakeholder expectations, technical feasibility, and stable operations

  • Continuously improving architecture, tooling, and workflows to support evolving scientific methods, data volumes, and digitization initiatives

What You’ll Need to Be Successful

  • M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) in IT, computer science, bioinformatics, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience

  • Several years of relevant experience within software development, scientific IT, or data platforms, ideally within a scientific or life science field.

  • Strong Python skills and hands‑on experience with Linux and databases

  • Experience working with system development, maintenance, and operations in an R&D‑intensive or research environment

  • Solid stakeholder management and agile ways‑of‑working experience

  • Fluency in written and spoken English

Additional Skills & Interests We Value

You bring familiarity with DevOps principles and modern software operations and have experience installing, customizing, and integrating open‑source tools and services. You have an interest in scientific domains such as genomics, proteomics, or bioinformatics, and you enjoy combining hands‑on coding with architectural discussions and the facilitation of diverse stakeholders.

What We Offer

You will have a key role in a globally impactful R&D environment where your work directly supports scientific discovery. The role offers close collaboration with engaged colleagues across IT and research disciplines, along with opportunities to influence long‑term platform strategy and R&D digitization initiatives. You will be part of a culture characterized by trust, collaboration, and a strong sense of purpose.

The role is primarily office‑based in Lyngby, with flexibility for hybrid work. You will collaborate closely on a daily basis with global colleagues and stakeholders, working normal office hours with flexibility depending on project needs. Limited travel may occur depending on stakeholders and projects.

Application deadline: 17 May 2026.
