What Happens in Shipping and Receiving Anyway?

  • Interact with donors to accept and process donations at trailer sites in an outdoor setting; provide outstanding service to all donors
  • Receive newly donated items from our Donations team
  • Help us be green and sustainable, sort and ship recyclable items
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in the heat, the cold and in wet weather conditions
  • Unload trailers in a safe and efficient manner

Position Title: Dock Team Member (Mid-Shift)
Reports To: Dock Supervisor
Department: Operations
FLSA Status: Nonexempt


Position Purpose and Objectives

America’s Thrift Stores is hiring Dock Team Members for a mid-shift position. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced, warehouse-style environment and enjoy hands-on, active work. We’re looking for team players with a strong work ethic who take pride in supporting operations and delivering a great experience for our donors.

Dock Team Members play a key role in keeping materials moving efficiently throughout the store while maintaining accuracy, organization, and safety. This position offers a balance of indoor and outdoor work and is a great opportunity to be part of a mission-driven, community-focused organization.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Count, weigh, and measure incoming and outgoing shipments
  • Ensure timely movement of materials to appropriate areas within the store
  • Track and document item movement and weights in the required systems
  • Identify and report shortages or discrepancies to management
  • Safely operate material handling equipment while following PPE guidelines
  • Assist donors and customers at the Store Donation Center as needed
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Support additional operational tasks as assigned by leadership

Skills and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Strong basic math and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to follow company policies and procedures effectively
  • Successful completion of background check, motor vehicle check, and drug screen
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

   Physical Demands:  

  • Frequently - Carrying up to 50 lbs., pushing and pulling up to 25 lbs., lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing up to 14-foot height, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, handling and smelling.  
  • Frequently - Walking on tile/concrete, bending, feeling, and reaching waist/overhead level.  
  • Continuously - Standing on tile/concrete, talking, seeing, and hearing.  

  

Other:  

  • Mostly regular and weekend hours, occasionally working evenings and holiday hours as needed.  
  • Working environment includes inside of building with semi- controlled temperatures and outside conditions with varying weather and temperatures.
