Job Description:

​​​​​​Imagine having a true work-life balance living in the stunning region of Otago. Our Underground Maintenance Workshop team are on the hunt for a Heavy Diesel Fitter based at Macraes Mine, East Otago. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your career or build upon your experience within the mining sector. 


This is a drive in, drive out opportunity from nearby Dunedin or Oamaru (free bus service to site daily), each with stunning landscapes, adventures and beaches to explore! For the more adventurous, Queenstown is just a 3 hour drive, offering endless amounts of exciting activities (skiing, hiking, water sports, fishing and more) to enjoy on your days off. 

This role will work to safely and efficiently undertake the maintenance, repairs and servicing of all mining machinery and ancillary plant/equipment under control of the underground operation. 7 days on / 7 days off / 7 nights on / 7 days off roster. While this role works as part of the underground department, the majority of the work is completed within the above surface workshop.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Maintain high levels of housekeeping at all facilities, equipment and company vehicles
  • Identify and report parts, materials and other resources required to complete allocated tasks
  • Record and report usage of all components, parts and other resources on work-order job cards
  • Attending and repairing breakdowns of the mining fleet and ancillary plant
  • Contractor management/ monitoring during shutdowns and major repairs (as directed).
  • Routine maintenance and inspection of the mining fleet and ancillary plant (services / daily inspections/Underground servicing & repairs when required)
  • Daily servicing (refueling and lubrication) of mining and ancillary plant (as directed)
Qualifications:
  • National Certificate in Automotive Heavy Engineering - Plant and Equipment Level 4 or 5 or equivalent (preferred) or other relevant industry Trade qualifications
  • First Aid, Forklift, Overhead Crane, rigging and slinging, Work at Height etc. to relevant NZ standards advantageous but not essential
  • 5 years minimum experience in repairs, maintenance and field service of heavy mining machinery.
  • Full, clean and current drivers licence, ability to drive manual vehicles is essential.
