Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Principal


Reports To: Principal


FLSA Status:  Exempt


 


Start Date:  July 1, 2026


Closing Date:  Open until Filled


 


Terms/Benefits:  261 day contract; medical, dental, vision, life benefits; 403(b); 12 sick days and 32 vacation days; preschool/child care discounts; mandatory participation in Arizona State Retirement System.


 


SUMMARY


The Assistant Principal will work directly under the supervision of the Principal and will be charged with the responsibility to assist in the coordination of the activities of both staff and students.


 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:



  • Supervises special projects as assigned by the principal.

  • Oversees student discipline and assists the principal with curriculum and instruction, and staff development/in-services.

  • Assists in developing and administering practices dealing with campus control and security.  Maintains visibility in cafeteria and on playground.

  • Shares supervision and participation in evening and weekend events with the principal.

  • Assists the principal with supervision and evaluation of classified and certified employees.

  • May work with students and staff to access social services or provide counseling as appropriate.

  • May serve as staff liaison to the parent-teacher organization.

  • Assists in the formulation of master schedule.

  • Participates in grade level, curriculum, and department meetings as appropriate.

  • Serves as the administrative designee in the absence of the principal.

  • Assists in recruitment and interviewing of staff.

  • May attend IEP meetings and assist with Special Education services.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Has direct supervisory responsibilities.


 


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, REQUIREMENTS



  • Bachelors Degree in Education

  • Masters Degree in Educational Leadership (preferred)

  • Minimum 5 years of teaching experience

  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Governing Board, district personnel, representatives of local and state agencies, parents, and the public.

  • Must be able to work with a diverse student population, including those with various handicaps and special needs.

  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate

  • Valid Class One Fingerprint Clearance Card
