    Position Summary 

    The Parents Connecting Parents Ambassador supports a community initiative of Wethersfield Early Childhood Collaborative (WECC), Wethersfield Public Schools (WPS), Wethersfield Social, Youth and Senior Services, and the CT Office of Early Childhood (OEC). Parent Ambassador(s) connect families to resources through peer-to-peer outreach, relationship-building, and shared experiences. They facilitate the sharing of information so that all families have access to support that helps children thrive. 

    Essential Functions

    Conduct outreach to parents and caregivers to build relationships and increase preschool program participation 

     Share information about early childhood programs, supports, and community resources 

    Facilitate or co-facilitate parent groups, workshops, and community events such as Parent Cafe Program (4 times per year) Provide peer support by listening, encouraging, and connecting families to relevant resources and services 

     Support and encourage parent leadership, engagement, and advocacy Attend WEEC meetings (6 x per year) with community partners, service providers, and local organizations 

    Develop, plan, organize, and promote activities to engage the community 

     Provide updates and receive directions from the Program Coordinator Collect and report records of outreach efforts, attendance, and participant feedback in Google Forms Use the ACCESS approach: Acknowledge, Connection, Curiosity, Engagement, Sharing, and

    Support, to meet families where they are, listen first, and offer resources that match their specific needs.

     Stay connected with families over time; follow up, check in, and share updates about upcoming events and resources 

     Report data to the WPS regarding position activities and findings to inform future planning

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

     Maintain a level of approachability 

     Strong interpersonal skills 

     Ability to maintain confidentiality in all family interactions and program records 

     Basic technology skills to facilitate communications, tracking, and reporting (Google Suite) 

     Community Cafe Facilitator certification preferred: training may be provided 

    Work independently and collaboratively 

     Awareness of early childhood development/educational needs 

    Represent the program in a professional, respectful, and culturally responsive manner 

    Deep cultural confidence and ability to engage respectfully with families from diverse linguistic,cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

    Additional Working Conditions:

    Driving to various locations across town 

    Work flexible hours to attend meetings/events that can occur throughout the day, including evenings and weekends. 

     Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds 

    Promote good public relations within the community

    Education, Experience, License(s), and Certification 

     Bilingual or multilingual skills are strongly encouraged. 

     Alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or WPS Board of Education may find appropriate 

    Background Check & Pre-Employment 

     CT Department of Children and Families background check. 

     State and national criminal history record check. 

    Documents necessary to complete the checks must be submitted within 10 days of hire. Work Year 

     This grant-funded position is part-time through June 30, 2026. Candidates must be flexible to schedule meetings throughout the day and evening as needed. The position will be up to but not to exceed 5 hours per week for hours worked.
