Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Critical Care Nurse to join the Intensive Care Unit at Northern Health.

 

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.

 

Services are provided through our five main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, and Kilmore District Hospital.  In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg.

 

About the Role:

This role requires a motivated and adaptable Critical Care Registered Nurse committed to delivering safe, evidence-based, and patient-centred care in a complex ICU environment.

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Northern Health is an 18-bed unit caring for over 1,100 critically ill patients annually, staffed by qualified Critical Care Nurses and Intensivists.

The ICU also provides vital outreach services, including the ICU Liaison NurseMedical Emergency Team (MET)parenteral nutrition, and tracheostomy follow-up.

We are deeply committed to continuous professional development, offering:

  • Accredited postgraduate critical care training
  • Regular in-service education and simulation
  • Opportunities for research, quality improvement, and staff-led initiatives
  • Clinical Support Nurses available seven days a week for bedside learning and mentorship

 This role is responsible for:

  • Delivering high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centred care in a dynamic ICU setting
  • Monitoring, assessing, and managing critically ill patients using advanced clinical judgment
  • Supporting and mentoring graduate and postgraduate nursing staff
  • Participating in ICU outreach and rapid response activities (MET and Liaison Nurse roles)
  • Contributing to ICU quality improvement, research, and service development initiatives
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and EMR compliance
  • Collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team to optimise patient outcomes

 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
  • Postgraduate qualification in Critical Care Nursing
  • Proven clinical assessment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary ICU team
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and patient safety
