JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Library/Technology Assistant
DATE: April 2026
QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate with post-secondary education and/or experience in areas related to the listed performance responsibilities.
REPORTS TO: Teacher Librarian
JOB GOAL: Provide clerical and technical skills in the areas of circulation, processing, computer operation, maintenance and inventory. Acts as the technology contact person for the building.
CIRCULATION
- Assist students and faculty at circulation desk
- Supervise student checkout
- Renew books for students
- Enter and edit Holds for students and teachers as needed
- Check in material from students and staff
- Shelve all returned materials in proper location
- Follow up on overdue materials
- Generate Emails for over dues
- Remind students verbally as needed
- Maintenance for lost materials
- Update catalog with lost materials
- Prepare bills/invoices as needed for lost or damaged materials
- Keep accurate records on lost or damaged materials
- Issue refunds when necessary
- Enter/download student records into Destiny software system
- Prepare pages with barcodes for each classroom
- Enter new student information as necessary for each class
- Prepare photograph for each new student in the system
- Generate monthly Destiny reports of ongoing fines for Belmont office
- Assemble bibliography reports from Librarian as requested
- Assist with lost/damaged book reports
PROCESSING SERVICES
- Process new books for shelf use
- Apply barcodes, spine labels, and protectors as needed
- Laminate dust covers or plastic coat for paperbacks as needed
- Stamp book with district and school ID stamps
TECHNICAL SERVICES
- Assist students and teachers in use of computer and other equipment
- Help supervise and assist with computer use as needed
- Set up and operate the LCD computer projection system, Ipads, Chromebooks, printers, video recording equipment, or other materials
- Assist students with Destiny catalog, Google Doc issues, etc.
- Help schedule and maintain the integrity of the device carts
- Make minor repairs (trouble-shoot malfunctions/problems)
- Contact Belmont for special supplies or devices (cords, plugs, headsets, etc)
- Assist students and teachers with materials selections and location
- Repair old or damaged material as needed
- Advise Librarian on status of library supplies and repairs
- Create displays around the library
- Assist staff in ordering/circulation of AEA materials
LIBRARY MAINTENANCE
- Shelf maintenance
- Straighten books on shelves
- Organize shelves according to call numbers
- Display books as necessary
- Shelf read periodically to ensure the organization of the shelves
- Clean and dust equipment and furniture as needed
- Perform general room maintenance
INVENTORY
- Complete annual inventory/Assist with Weeding
- Scan books by sections of the library to make an account of all books
- Mark or withdraw lost/damaged materials
- Compare computer list with books on shelves
- Make suggestions for weeding/new acquisitions
- Repair materials as necessary
TECHNOLOGY CONTACT PERSON
- Acts as the liaison between the technology coordinator and the staff
- Assists staff with technology questions or problems
- Disseminates materials, software and hardware, as needed
PTA BIRTHDAY BOOKS
- Generates a list of student birthdays by month via Destiny
- Prepares a letter for all students for participation in the Birthday Book Club
- Keeps a record of student names, dates, class, chosen books and final tally
- Prepares insert with student name and birthday for chosen books
- Takes photo of the student with the book
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year assigned according to the Letter of Assignment.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the building level administrator.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Medium Work - lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently or up to 10 lbs. constantly. Stooping and kneeling occasionally. Reaching, talking, and hearing frequently. Must be able to remain mobile throughout the work day.
