JOB DESCRIPTION HEARD COUNTY SCHOOLS: Physical Education Teacher 



190 Day Contract


FLSA: Exempt


PRIMARY FUNCTION: To provide physical education instruction to students that enables them to achieve to the maximum of their ability. 


 


REPORTS TO:  Principal


 


QUALIFICATIONS: 



  1. Educational Level: Bachelor Degree Required 

  2. Certification/License Required: Valid Georgia Leadership Certificate

  3. Experience: None 

  4. Physical Activities: Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities

  5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learners; student management, relationship building.


 


The board of education and superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.


 


JOB OBJECTIVES: 


 



  1. Teaches movement concepts in conjunction with awareness of body parts and spatial awareness (personal, group, and general space); analyzes, demonstrates, and explains fundamental loco motor skills and non-loco motor patterns for movement skills such as running, hopping, jumping, galloping, twisting, turning or bending.

  2. Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, to the extent feasible; teaches physical education classes for handicapped pupils as necessary.

  3. Evaluates each pupil’s growth in physical skills, knowledge, contribution in sports participation, and social skills; communicates with parents and school staff on pupil progress; identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems. 

  4. Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities; participates in curriculum and other developmental programs; participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.

  5. Cooperates with school administration in providing specialty performing groups for special occasions, attends PTA meetings and assemblies; supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day; conducts an annual field day activity. 

  6. Selects and requisitions supplies, equipment, and instructional aids in concert with county guidelines, and maintains accurate inventory records. 

  7. Meets expectations according to the regular elementary school teacher job description. 

  8. Maintains prompt and professional communication with parents. 

  9. Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
