Days/Hours: Coordinating May 18- July 31  - Not to exceed 40 hours

Driving Tuesdays and Wednesdays various days 10:00 am - 1:30 pm

Job Summary:
The Hoquiam School District is seeking a passionate, student-focused Book Mobile Coordinator/Driver to coordinate and support our mobile literacy program during the summer months. This unique role blends teaching, outreach, and community engagement to promote literacy across our district. The ideal candidate is someone who believes in the power of books to transform lives and who thrives on building connections with students, families, and the wider community.

Key Responsibilities:

Meaningful Relationships:

  • Greet students and families warmly and professionally at every stop, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  • Build rapport with reluctant readers and provide encouragement through positive, individualized interactions.
  • Maintain a reflective journal that includes parent and student interactions to inform continuous program improvement.

Engaged Learners:

  • Lead interactive reading sessions at each site to inspire a love of books and storytelling.
  • Tailor reading material and activities to the interests, levels, and needs of diverse student groups.
  • Track book requests and student engagement to ensure access to high-interest reading materials.

Adaptive Pathways:

  • Prepare and organize books and materials before and after each mobile visit, adjusting selections based on reader needs.
  • Differentiate book recommendations and engagement strategies for students of all ages and abilities, including at-risk and early learners.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in schedule, route, and communication to reach the widest possible student audience.

Community Connections:

  • Operate the Book Mobile safely across Hoquiam neighborhoods, becoming a familiar and trusted presence during the summer.
  • Collaborate with families, community partners, and school staff to extend the reach and impact of the program.
  • Serve as an advocate for literacy and equitable access to books throughout the summer break.

Essential Duties:

  • Conduct open reading sessions with students at designated stops.
  • Greet families and students positively and consistently.
  • Maintain a daily journal/log of site visits, participation, book circulation, and interactions.
  • Restock the mobile library each day and maintain vehicle organization.
  • Operate the Book Mobile in accordance with state traffic laws and district policies.
  • Be available during the summer program months (June, July, August).
  • Plan, Coordinate & implement Book Mobile program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate.
  • Endorsements in Reading and Language Arts.(preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience working with students across a wide range of abilities,including reluctant or struggling readers.
  • Prior teaching experience with grades PK–5 preferred.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
  • Experience coordinating literacy programs (preferred).
  • Awareness and understanding of how poverty impacts student access and learning.
  • Must obtain and maintain FBI fingerprint clearance and proof of employment eligibility.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth in literacy education.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift totes, restock books, and manage physical tasks related to the mobile unit.
  • Capable of sitting for extended periods and safely operating a large vehicle.
  • Must be able to load, unload, and organize materials in varying weather conditions.
  • Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching to assist students and manage materials.
  • Exposure to outdoor environments, including varying weather, during mobile stops.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and positively in a busy, dynamic setting.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and meet district requirements for vehicle operation.
  • Flexibility in adjusting schedules and locations to meet student and community needs.


Salary: $35.00 Per Hour


Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
