Wadena Truck and Trailer has an immediate opening for a Shop Manager! 

The Shop Manager leads daily maintenance operations for the company fleet, ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective performance of tractors, trailers, and related equipment. This role manages shop workflow, technicians, vendors, parts/inventory processes, compliance documentation, and preventive maintenance planning while supporting on-time transportation operations.

Available Schedule: Monday - Friday

Salary: $80,000, Based on experience & knowledge

Requirements

•    3+ years of hands-on diesel/trailer maintenance experience, including advanced diagnostics and repairs.
•    1+ years of shop leadership experience (lead technician, foreman, or manager) with proven ability to plan work and supervise others.
•    Strong knowledge of DOT inspection requirements and maintenance documentation.
•    Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic information.
•    Proficiency with maintenance software, work orders, and basic computer skills (email, spreadsheets).
•    Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
•    Ability to work a flexible schedule including occasional nights/weekends and emergency calls, as needed.

Summary

1)    Plan, schedule, and assign work for preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, and breakdowns to meet fleet availability goals.
2)    Diagnose and oversee diagnosis of diesel engine, drivetrain, electrical, aftertreatment (DPF/SCR), brake, suspension, HVAC, and trailer systems; confirm root cause and quality of repair.
3)    Supervise and coach technicians; provide technical guidance, verify productivity, and ensure safe work practices.
4)    Maintain compliance with DOT/State requirements and company standards (PM records, inspection forms, repair orders, emissions/after treatment documentation as applicable).
5)    Manage shop processes including work order creation/closeout, labor coding, warranty tracking, and documentation accuracy in maintenance software.
6)    Control parts purchasing and inventory: order parts, maintain min/max levels, manage core returns, and ensure proper storage and labeling.
8)    Monitor maintenance spend and identify opportunities to reduce downtime and cost (PM compliance, repeat repairs, component life tracking).
9)    Conduct regular shop/facility inspections; ensure tools, lifts/jacks, welders, air systems, and safety equipment are maintained and calibrated as required.
10)    Promote and enforce safety, housekeeping, and environmental practices (PPE, lockout/tagout, spill response, waste oil/filters, batteries, coolant disposal).
12)    Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, and performance conversations for shop employees.
13)    Maintain accurate equipment histories and ensure PM schedules and inspection intervals are current for all assigned assets.
14)    Perform other duties as assigned.
