Job Description

Position Summary: Responsible for performing general accounting and financial activities, such as preparing journals for financial statement preparation, account analysis, reconciliation, and month-end closing procedures. Ensures all transactions are documented and reported accurately in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and standards, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Coordinates internal and external audit processes and implements and monitors controls. Generates reports about financial status, trends, and issues and makes recommendations for improvement to leadership. Provides support for purchase requisition approvals, budgeting and forecasting.

Critical Tasks:

·Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, including general ledgers, complete monthly closings, and document business transactions.

· Oversees and reviews accuracy of all transactions, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations. Researches out-of-balance or open items, investigates and corrects errors, and reports concerns to Finance Director or Assistant Finance Director.

· Coordinates with Department leaders to obtain variance explanations of actual and budgeted financial data on a monthly basis.

· Generates a variety of reports about financial information and statements to summarize Gila River Health Care’s current and projected financial position based on prior trends, estimates, and significant changes.

· Reviews and approves purchase requisitions and/or check requests and ensures account coding is accurate and appropriate supporting documentation is included to justify the request

· Assists in developing annual budgets and forecasts of the department (for GRHC and finance department).

· Assists Finance Director and Assistant Finance Director by responding to internal and external audit requests. Also prepares reports and collects documents to substantiate individual transactions.

· Responds to audit findings under the direction of Finance Director and Assistant Finance Director by implementing process changes, and monitoring internal controls and corrective actions.

· Coordinates, modifies, and documents implementation of accounting systems and accounting control procedures. Evaluates operations and submits recommendations for improvement.

· Determines and approves proper handling of financial transactions and monitors compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and organization procedures.

· Prepares federal, state, and local financial reports by collecting appropriate data.

· Distributes expenditures, encumbrances, receipts, and receivables according to schedules.

· Coordinates requests for reports and documents for the preparation of Indirect Cost Proposals and Medicare Cost Report.

· Performs other job-related activities as requested.

Required Qualifications:

· Associates Degree in Accounting or closely related field of study; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

· Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.

· 2 years of previous Accounting experience in asset management, financial reporting, and/or auditing required.

· Previous medical or healthcare environment work experience preferred.

    · Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.
