  • Ability to perform routine cleaning, building maintenance, and minor repairs
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Physical ability to lift, move, and carry equipment and supplies as needed

Evening Custodian
Job Description
Overview:
Works with school administration, the Head Custodian, Night Lead and other district staff to ensure
school facilities requirements are met, including maintaining a safe and clean building and providing
for the physical needs of the educational program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (illustrative not inclusive)
● Maintains the cleanliness and sanitation of the building by performing all work assignments in
accordance with departmental policies, procedures and schedules
● Keeps building and premises (including sidewalks and play areas) neat and clean at all times
● Performs necessary work to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of all hard surface flooring,
including but not limited to: sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming, polishing and waxing
● Dusts and cleans offices and classrooms
● Empties trash receptacles
● Cleans, sanitizes and restocks restrooms
● Assists in snow removal
● Washes interior and exterior windows
● Locks and unlocks assigned buildings, making sure lights are off and security system is activated
when necessary
● Assists with set up of facilities for functions, events, meetings, etc.
● Helps with deliveries
● Works closely with all custodial staff
● Moves furniture, equipment and supplies
● Covers outside events as assigned
● Supports and carries out Board of Education policies and procedures
● Reports all repairs and unusual findings to the Night Lead Custodian
● Performs other similar duties as assigned by the Night Lead Custodian
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
● Work collaboratively with others
● Understand written and oral instructions
● Perform physically demanding work
o Occasional climbing, balancing, crouching and crawling
o Frequent stooping, reaching, kneeling, handling, talking and hearing
o Stand, walk, crouch, kneel and push/pull using arms, legs and back muscles
● Perform lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds
● Work at heights using ladders and/or lifts
● Operate heavy equipment, including but not limited to: buffers, scrubbers, burnishers, extractors
and snow removal equipment
● Complete assignments without direct supervision; self-starter
● Follow procedures and apply common sense understanding to situations
● Deal with situations and emergencies calmly and quickly

Terms of Employment:
12-month position, per Custodial Union contract
Evaluated by:
Annual evaluation by the Head Custodian in consultation with the Night Lead
