This teaching assignment includes Contemporary World Problems and Civics (12th grade) and World History (10th grade).


 


QUALIFICATIONS:



  1. Valid Washington State teaching certificate K-12 or 4-12, with a Social Studies/History endorsement. Multiple endorsements including Spanish, or other 6-12 content areas preferred. 

  2. Demonstrated successful teaching experience of secondary Social Studies in an MTSS environment.

  3. Demonstrated ability to build relationships with individual students and families over a variety of grade levels.

  4. Knowledge and experience with state standards. 

  5. Demonstrated ability to utilize an MTSS system to adapt instruction and curriculum to meet a wide range of student needs, including students with identified needs in highly capable and special education.

  6. Demonstrated ability to create and use assessments including a formative assessment instructional cycle, benchmark assessments, and summative assessments.

  7. Demonstrated excellence in communication and organizational skills.

  8. Understanding of how to best access and use online and open educational resources with students and families.

  9. Ability to integrate mobile technologies and implement technology innovations into field-based, multi-age experiential learning activities.

  10. Demonstrated willingness and desire to participate in district and state workshops, in-services, and classes relevant to providing quality teaching.

  11. Demonstrated compatibility with fellow staff members, including strong collaboration skills.

  12. Demonstrated understanding and support of place-based learning.

  13. Demonstrated understanding of culturally responsive teaching practices.

  14. Demonstrated understanding of inclusion and inclusionary practices in the high school setting.


 


PERFORMANCE  RESPONSIBILITIES:  


 



  1. Plan, develop and implement a course of instruction in Social Studies for grades 10-12 designed to achieve student educational goals in collaboration with families.

  2. Plan, develop and implement enrichment, intervention and elective classes for students in grades 9-12.

  3. Utilize MTSS to support student learning, application of learning and ultimately successful growth.

  4. Develop a non-threatening, comfortable educational environment in a variety of settings for a diverse student population.

  5. Communicate regularly with students and families about student progress and respond to questions/concerns in a timely manner, using a variety of methods and maintain records of weekly communications with students and families.

  6. Utilize a wide variety of teaching methods including thematic units, project and place-based learning, and student directed learning to support a student and family partnerships.

  7. Provide feedback, grade coursework, differentiate coursework, and support students in all curriculum areas designed to achieve student educational goals.

  8. Diagnoses and prescribes instructional levels for students.

  9. Maintains detailed and accurate student records.

  10. Develops effective positive techniques for improving student behavior and maintains order appropriate to a productive learning environment.

  11. Uses district database programs to maintain student grading and attendance records.

  12. Work with other school, district, community staff, families and students to meet identified student needs.

  13. Participates in both short and long-term instructional planning which may include customizing school-based intervention plans.

  14. Maintains materials and equipment including submitting timely orders and inventories as required.

  15. Collaborate with school staff to plan and deliver maritime and place-based learning in alignment with the district’s mission and vision.

  16. Support students and families in engaging with learning throughout the week and outside of classroom instruction time to ensure all students are making academic progress.

  17. Work in team situations and will work cooperatively with program and building certificated and classified staff.

  18. Participate in scheduled staff meetings and identified training(s).

  19. Collaborate with staff, especially regarding the needs of students with IEP’s, 504 plans, and Highly Capable learners.

  20. Other duties as assigned by the supervising principal.

Bargaining Unit: Port Townsend Education Association


 


Salary Range: DOE, Salary for the 2025-26 year is $61,500-$119,584


Salary schedule will be updated for the 2026-27 year once available.
