Northern Wasco PUD is looking for a Finance Intern to join our team this summer 2026. This temporary internship offers up to 40 hours per week depending on department needs, and is expected to last about 3 months, but no longer than 12 weeks. This unique opportunity is ideal for candidates that are currently enrolled in a college or university degree program in accounting, finance, economics, data analysis, or related field.
The Finance Intern is a temporary training position designed to provide hands‑on experience in public sector finance within a public utility district. Under close supervision, the intern assists with accounting support, financial analysis, record maintenance, and departmental projects. The position emphasizes learning governmental accounting practices, financial transparency, and the responsible management of public funds while contributing to the daily operations of the Finance Department.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide support in the processing of accounts payable.
- Aid the accounts receivable function as needed.
- Provide support in updating budget templates.
- Assist with bank reconciliations.
- Provide support in updating and developing Power BI Dashboards and other Data Analytics tools.

Secondary Functions:
- Job shadow various finance positions.
- All PUD employees are expected to work outside of normal business hours when required during emergency restoration activities and to accomplish other special projects.

QUALIFICATIONS: Recommended Education, Training & Experience (includes licenses or certifications): Other combinations of education and/or experience demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to do the work will also be considered.
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Current enrollment in a college/university degree program in accounting, finance, economics, data analysis or related field preferred.
Job Scope:
- Works on assignments that are standardized and routine in nature where limited judgment is required. Problems and unfamiliar situations are referred to others for resolution. Exercises initiative to accomplish assignments. Job duties are clearly defined and order of tasks can be modified within parameters set by supervisor.
