Wheat Ridge was founded during the 1859 Gold Rush as a rest stop for miners and later named for its golden wheat fields. As unsuccessful miners turned to farming, the area thrived with orchards, vegetable fields, and later, greenhouses, earning the title “Carnation City.” Incorporated in 1969, Wheat Ridge now offers a central location with easy access to Denver and the Rocky Mountains. It operates as a home-rule city with a council-manager government, where the elected council sets policy, and the manager oversees daily operations and budgeting.

GENERAL PURPOSE: Assists in management of staff and customers at City owned sites such as: Anderson Building (outdoor swimming pool, meeting/activity rooms, gymnasium), Active Adult Center (activity rooms, meeting/class rooms, rental hall) and Richards-Hart Estate (historic property for rental activities, meetings and special events). These facilities range in square footage and each facility has an average of 5 to 100 guests visit daily.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide excellent customer service to patrons visiting or contacting Wheat Ridge recreation facilities.

Responds to facility complaints referring unusual situations to respective Recreation Supervisor.

Responsible for recreation facility operation, maintaining facilities in a clean, neat, safe manner, maintaining discipline in assigned areas.

Handles routine requests with building vendors/contractors including janitorial, electrical, and property management (i.e. building temperature, lighting, equipment failures).

When assigned to Anderson building, work closely with seasonal aquatic staff to allow for a coordinated, professionally managed facility.

Assist in facility supervision of locker room(s), meeting/activity rooms and fitness rooms.

Generally assigned to work the front counter or other control areas at Anderson Building and Active Adult Center.

May also be assigned to work at Richards-Hart Estate for special events and rentals.

Perform related work as required and assigned by the appropriate Recreation Coordinator.

Respond to emergency situations following policy, protocol, and safety procedures.

Responsible for writing incident reports in the event of injuries or property loss.

Responsible for daily cash control operations, opening/closing, patrolling facility.

Facilitate class registration in RecTrac registration system including trip registrations.

Reconcile money received with general ledger report, process activity refunds, transfers, and household credits.

Deliver money from safe to Wheat Ridge Rec Center at end of shift.

Perform room set up and tear down as needed and perform basic light janitorial duties of facility as needed.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications:

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
-
American Red Cross or American Heart Assn. Infant/Child/Adult CPR, AED and First Aid certification is required within 60 days of hire.

Experience related to facility supervision or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Knowledge of office equipment, facility and equipment operations, first aid techniques and basic math.

Working knowledge of recreation operations and philosophy.

Learn the computerized registration program, RecTrac and operate it with basic knowledge and understanding of the software.

Possess awareness and ability to react to unusual or suspicious activity or persons that may cause potential harm or danger and take appropriate action.

Ability to verbally communicate in a clear and concise manner is essential to this position when interacting with the public and fellow co-workers.
Hours of Work, Location, and Work Environment
This position is part-time and hours will vary according to scheduling needs. Work is primarily performed indoors involving lifting, bending, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, climbing, walking, and hearing. Requires the ability to move tables, chairs, volleyball standards and occasional lifting and carrying of objects weighing less than 24 pounds. Must be able to work in an environment where noise and interruptions prevail. The ability to properly operate or use the following is necessary for this position: telephone, cash register, calculator, copier, computer and associated software, credit card machine, camera, laminator, vacuum, typewriter, and other office machines.
