    Qualifications
    1. Bachelor’s degree in education.
    2. Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate in the field of Special Education (i.e., applicable to position seeking).
    3. Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card.
    4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

    Performance Responsibilities
    Program Planning and Evaluation
    1. Acts as classroom teacher providing support and/or monitoring all areas of the Individualized Education Plan.
    2. Administers, transfers, and interprets diagnostic data as appropriate to his/her area.
    3. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
    4. Adapts the curriculum with individual plans and instructional materials to the needs of each pupil.
    5. Evaluates student’s academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
    6. Maintains a program inventory of materials and supplies.
    7. Submits budget request needs.
    8. Participates in the developing of a District-in-service educational program.
    9. Promotes Inclusion opportunities for students and collaborates with general education teachers as appropriate to student needs.
    10. Maintains accurate and compliant paperwork for IEP caseload including quarterly progress reports.

    Communication
    1. Maintains lines of communication with:
      1. Staff teachers
      2. Grade-level chairman
      3. Students
      4. Parents
      5. Special Education Coordinator
      6. Principals
    2. Kinds of communication:
      1. Faculty meetings
      2. Grade-level and special education meetings
      3. Dissemination of pertinent announcements and procedures
      4. Parent-student-teacher conferences
      5. Professional literature
      6. Relate to the principals and special education coordinator all items of school concern
      7. Submit reports to the administration and the special education department as needed

    Supervision
    1. Maintains proper and adequate supervision of students at all times.
    2. Assists in supervising students in related activities outside of immediate classroom.
    3. Acts as direct supervisor for classroom paraprofessionals.

    Professional Growth
    1. Possesses a broad knowledge of special education and is able to transfer this knowledge into program activities.
    2. Responsible for maintaining his/her personal growth and development in the areas of special education.
    3. Reads professional literature pertinent to the field of special education.
    4. Willing to participate in self-evaluation activities in order to improve one’s self/professional outlook.
