Job Description

ELEVEN MONTHS (220 DAYS), INCLUDING IN PART PAID STATE RETIREMENT & STATE MANDATED LIFE INSURANCE & IN PART FOR HEALTH INSURANCE


 


 


Qualifications:


Bachelor’s Degree and experience as an athletic trainer.  Skilled in oral and written communications; ability to motivate others to reach their fullest potential; and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, students, parents, teachers, coaches, support staff and associates. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.


 


Essential Functions:

  • Develops a plan for emergency health care of injured athletes; provides evaluation and treatment to injured athletes; initiates and processes all injury reports; maintains first aid supplies and ensures that they are in their proper location for use; renders on-site decisions, in the absence of a physician, on the playing status of a player; counsels the coaches when an athlete may participate in practice or games following injury or illness; counsels athletes in seeking proper medical assistance for follow-up care; maintains accurate medical records for all athletes, to include, but not limited to, athletic physicals, treatments rendered, physician referrals and recommendations, etc; advises coaches and coordinates the efforts of doctors, athletes, and parents; establishes injury prevention practices

  • Supervises the athletic training room

  • Provide athletic training services for all home athletic contests and away varsity football games.  If a conflict arises between an away varsity football game and a home contest, the varsity football event will supersede.

  • Act as liaison between family physicians and specialists, the school district, athletes, and their parents.

  • Maintain accurate records of injuries, treatments and provide insurance claim forms for sports injuries treated by a physician.

  • Maintain the budget for the athletic training program.

  • Schedule and be present for pre-participation sports physicals.

  • Provide the coaches and athletic director with a list of athletes medically eligible to compete under district and state rules and regulations.

  • Assist the athletic director as requested.


 


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


Ability to serve as a liaison between various athletic and academic teams, the community, parents, school system administrators, vendors, media, and other special interest groups; ability to multitask while coordinating several activities simultaneously; must possess strong leadership characteristics and skills.


  


 


Physical Requirements


Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS


Possession of a valid driver’s license.
