Position Summary:
Provide direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness and emergency care to students.
Administer medication based on appropriate documentation. Maintain accurate medical records to
assure compliance with state mandates.
Responsibilities and Duties:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty
satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability
required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform
the essential functions.
● Provide direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students
and staff in response to the nursing assessment and in accordance with professional standards,
school policy and procedures, and state and local mandates. Communicate with Certified school
nurse, teachers, other school personnel, and parents or guardians to meet health and safety
needs of students/staff.
● Administer medication with appropriate documentation.
● Maintain accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including
immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions, and the related archival
responsibilities.
● Make appropriate assessment and referrals for suspected abuse and/or neglect as mandated
reporter.
● Compile health and related data, including accident and incident reports, for statistical purposes
and reports.
● Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
● Associate’s degree or two-year college certificate in nursing.

● Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
● More than one year and up to and including three years of experience in the nursing field.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, OR CERTIFICATIONS:
● Criminal background check required for hire.
● Valid Registered Nurse license in State of Illinois.
● CPR certifications.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
● Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers, basic computer software and
peripherals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use
hands; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required
to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must
regularly lift and/or move up to 25 and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision
abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust
focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to bodily fluids. The noise
level in the work environment is usually moderate.
