Description
Washington Golf & Country Club (WGCC) is a private, family-oriented club in Arlington, Virginia, and we are hiring Seasonal Head Lifeguards for the upcoming pool season. This is a great opportunity for individuals who are responsible, safety-minded, and looking for a fun, team-oriented summer position.
Under the direction of the Pool Manager, responsible for the safety and cleanliness of pool facility in a manner that is most pleasing to members and their guests while ensuring a high standard of appearance, hospitality and service in personnel and cleanliness of the pool.
Responsibilities:
- Sit attentively in lifeguard chair actively observing the water while pool patrons are swimming
- Supervise pool and check it in hot and often difficult weather conditions
- Abide by all WGCC policies and procedures
- Ensure safety of all pool patrons in and out of the pool
- Ensure all members and their guests are abiding by the guidelines and policies of the Club
- Work within a team to run the pool with the highest level of customer service
- Wear proper and clean uniforms at all times
- Operation of the pool, cleanliness of the deck, stocking of towels and cleanliness of bathroom (making hourly checkups)
- Ensure that all local and state laws and the Club’s policies and procedures for the operation and pool are consistently followed
- Assist with setup and takedown of swim and dive meets, including judges’/workers/ table, swim/dive team areas
- Ensure operation of PA system
- Check in patrons and their guests, making sure that all who are permitted entry are members
- Complete pre-established daily and hourly tasks and any other job listed on the job board or given by the Pool Managers or Aquatics Director
- Ensure that Lifeguards are completing all hourly, daily, and weekly chores and tasks throughout each shift
- Attend pre-, in-, and post-season staff meetings and orientation and abide by all policies discussed there
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- At least 16 years of age
- 2+ years experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
- Must have current Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR certifications
- Or any similar combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills to a wide variety of constituents, including both swimmers and parents (children and adults)
- Demonstrated organization and coordination skills and ability to meet deadlines and multi-task
- Ability to maintain quality and safety standards and coordinate quality assurance programs in areas of responsibility
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations
- Excellent interpersonal/relationship-building skills
- Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, squat, kneel, reach, bend, stoop, twist, climb, clean, walk on rough ground and lift up to 20 pounds
- Must be able to rescue a human being trapped in the water regardless of the individual’s weight
- Must be able to dial, collate, file, open/close, sort, stamp, staple, fold/unfold and insert/remove
- Must be able to handle hot and cold interior and exterior conditions (sometimes hot and often difficult weather conditions) and exposure to dust, fumes or gases
- Must be able to work in close proximity to moving machinery
- Independent mobility
