About the Department

Summary Objective

The purpose of this internship is to assist with administrative tasks related to County Council and committee meetings, providing support in the preparation of agendas, meeting documentation, and public notices. The intern will gain valuable experience in local government administration, working under the guidance of the Clerk to Council.

Position Duties

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Assist in preparing agendas, packets, and supporting documents for County Council and committee meetings.
  • Conduct basic research on local policies, ordinances, and government procedures.
  • Attend council meetings and take notes as needed. Support the transcribing, editing, and finalization of meeting minutes.
  • Update the County’s website with relevant meeting information, agendas, and minutes.
  • Help prepare and distribute public notices and announcements for meetings and hearings.
  • Help respond to constituent inquires and direct them to appropriate resources.
  • Provide general administrative assistance such as filing, data entry, phone calls and responding to emails.
  • Aid in coordinating board and commission meetings, including sending reminders and ensuring compliance with procedural requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a currently enrolled student in a college or law school program

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

  • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment.
