Job Description

TITLE:  Junior Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse Coach


TYPE OF POSITION: Part-time; Spring sports season; stipend commensurate with experience (range $3,869-$5,804)


LOCATION:  High School, Hopkinton, Massachusetts


AREA OF CONSIDERATION: All qualified candidates


NOTE: Please be aware that payment of this stipend may be contingent upon the athletic season being officially held, and, for a partial season, may be prorated as a percentage of the athletic season being officially held.


 


The Junior Varsity Boys Lacrosse Coach works with student-athletes to teach the fundamentals of the sport and the concept of competing as a member of a team, while fostering physical fitness and the continuous development of skills.  The coach models exemplary behavior in relations with teammates, opponents, spectators and officials, to foster social, emotional, and physical growth & development and support what is best for the overall character development of the student-athlete. The coach emphasizes the importance of continuous improvement, teamwork, diversity, sportsmanship, pride, and work ethic, while providing the opportunity for a safe, positive and enjoyable experience for the student-athlete.  The Junior Varsity Boys Lacrosse Coach reports to the Athletic Director and the Varsity Boys Lacrosse Coach.


 


QUALIFICATIONS:



  1. MIAA Coaching certificate if first serving as an interscholastic coach after July 1, 2005;

  2. Bachelor’s degree in related field and previous relevant coaching experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience;

  3. Knowledge of MIAA rules governing athletic activities;

  4. Ability to motivate student athletes, communicate clearly and effectively, and relate to and work with students of differing athletic abilities;

  5. Commitment to remain current in knowledge of the sport, and its coaching strategies;

  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Athletic Director may find appropriate and in conformity with state and federal statute.


 


DUTIES:



  1. Supervise and conduct practice and coaching sessions. Teach sports techniques, playing rules, strategies and playing tactics. Impart love of the sport to players and develop healthy self-image and confidence;  

  2. Condition athletes appropriately for activities requiring endurance, strength and agility;

  3. Teach sportsmanship, cooperation, work ethic and responsibility to one's team;

  4. Supervise and provide coaching during matches, meets, contests;

  5. Observe basic safety guidelines. Respond to player injuries with approved first aid;

  6. Manage uniforms, equipment, and school facilities in a responsible manner;

  7. Assist Varsity Coach, as needed;

  8. Other duties, as assigned.
