Human Disability ADJUNCT FACULTY



Midcoast Campus - Brunswick



CLASSES BEGIN FALL 2026



  



 



 



Description of Courses: This course offers an interdisciplinary overview of disability as a critical dimension of diversity in human services. Students examine the lived experiences of individuals with disabilities through historical, psychological, social, legal, and cultural lenses.



 



 



In-person at SMCC’s Midcoast Campus in Brunswick during the Fall 2026 semester.



Class meets on Tuesdays from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM.



 



 



 



Minimum Qualifications:




  • Master’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education, Disability Studies, Occupational Therapy, Public Health, or a related field

  • Professional experience in human services, disability services, behavioral health, social work, rehabilitation, education, advocacy, case management, or a closely related field

  • Demonstrated ability to support respectful, inclusive, and student-centered learning environments



 



 



 



Preferred Qualifications:




  • College-level teaching experience

  • Experience teaching or facilitating discussions related to disability, inclusion, accessibility, disability rights, cultural humility, or person-centered practice

  • Professional experience working with individuals with physical, sensory, developmental, cognitive, psychiatric, or health-related disabilities

  • Familiarity with disability rights, community-based support, ethical practice, and empowerment-based approaches to human services

  • Experience using Brightspace or another learning management system
