Job Description

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR 

The Business Intelligence (BI) Developer & Operations Analyst position assists CapMetro in making informed business decisions that enhance service quality and sustainability of Demand Response and Innovative Mobility service.  The BI Developer & Operations Analyst develops automated and ad-hoc performance reports to submit National Transit Database data reports and create performance metric dashboards (including eligibility, customer service, service coordination, and contractor performance). The BI Developer & Operations Analyst creates user-friendly BI interface application to query databases, uses SQL queries, BI analytical tools to leverage data warehouses to mine for information and analyze statistics and participates in data warehouse design. Provides quality and consistent data, produce report metrics and conduct analysis to make timely decisions, provide transparency, and develop strategies to balance service quality and sustainability, and drive innovation.  The BI Developer and Operations Analyst works to identify performance trends, use datasets to analyze operations costs, staffing, effectiveness/ efficiency, and quality of service.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Identify valuable data sources and automate data collection process using SQL stored procedures, data views.

  • Work cross-functionally with various departments to identify data/performance metric needs, design routine and ad-hoc reports, and analyze data.

  • Participate in Datawarehouse design process and O&M support for CapMetro.

  • Document contents in a data warehouse and meta-data storage.

  • Identify and access source datasets relevant to demand response and innovative mobility analysis.

  • Use BI analytic software tools to program and develop reports and data analytics.

  • Create reports, dashboards, scorecards to meet functional area needs.

  • Document BI data analytics including data sources, definitions, methodology, procedures, validity/data integrity considerations.

  • Confer with persons originating, handling, entering, or receiving data to identify problems and resolve issues prior to advancing information.

  • Perform quality assurance checks on new and enhanced reports.

  • Uses GIS to create maps to visualize performance data.

  • Assist department management including the contracted services team with administrative review of contracts, ensuring receipt of complete and valid reporting through audit and documentation procedures.

  • Prepare monthly operating performance metric reports, including graphs, charts, and analysis.

  • Conduct trend analyses and provide summary reports to management.

  • Evaluate findings, using knowledge of contracts, operating practices, and industry business practices.

  • Coordinate the department collection of required National Transit Database (NTD) statistics and ensure that reports are accurate and completed within the timeframes required.

  • Develop and update technical documentation.

  • Recommend establishment of new or modified reporting methods, procedures, and documentation to improve daily business practices.

  • Research and compile data, statistical and other pertinent information for special projects, reports and presentations.

  • Assist with testing for software installations and upgrades in a timely manner ensuring the highest level of functionality for the end-users.

  • Support a safety culture by considering the needs and abilities of all passengers, ensuring the safe and effective provision of appropriate transportation services.

  • Support Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Safety Management Systems (SMS) process by following safety and security policies, considering safety in every action and reporting safety and security concerns.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, or related field. Related experience may substitute for the education on a year for year basis up to four (4) years.

  • Three (3) years of experience using programming software and a variety of automated office software including Oracle, SQL, MS Access, Data Visualization Tools, Visual Studio, and Excel. SAS Certification preferred.

  • Experience in aggregation of enterprise level dashboards/ reporting using .NET technology.

  • Relevant experience using current GIS technology of using editing tools, performing spatial analysis and creating geodatabases with ArcGIS platform is preferred.

  • Two (2) years of experience in data analytic software, data collection and analysis.

  • Knowledge of transit scheduling and dispatch software, and call-center systems preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong skills writing SQL queries in Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or other industry leading RDBMS to implement complex business logics.

  • General knowledge of scripting languages 

  • Industry experience in data development, production, and automation

  • High-level understanding of data warehouse concepts/methodologies to implement business intelligence solutions.

  • Strong debugging/troubleshooting skills to understand the complexity connected with security issues and data access permissions of the data warehouse. 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Aptitude for organization and adaptive/deductive reasoning.

  • Skilled in research, calculation, analysis and summarization of complex data

  • Detail oriented with the ability to process, understand, utilize and report complex transit concepts.

  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships through interpersonal skills.

     

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions. This position works with multiple project timelines and is responsible for managing employees performing work of a complex nature. 

Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently throughout an eight-hour period, reach vertically for overhead use as well as horizontally. Must be able to use a telephone or headset equipment. Incumbents must be able to lift and move material weighing up to 20 lbs., perform work at a computer terminal for 6-8 hours a day, and function in an environment with constant interruptions.

Mobility Status:

As a Mobile position, the incumbent is expected to work in the office as needed.  There will be access to touchdown/collaboration spaces when on site. Must be in-office for socialization, strategic collaboration, supervision, oversight, and accountability as needed. CapMetro reserves the right to modify work status based on business needs.
