Under the general supervision of the Recreation Manager and Athletic Supervisor, this position provides support with operational duties of municipal facilities specific to Parks and Recreation, such as but not limited to, preparation and monitoring of activities, clerical, clean up, and serving the general public in a polite, courteous and professional manner.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform required make-ready, janitorial and clean-up duties prior to, during and at the end of a work shift;
- Possesses a basic working knowledge of a variety of park and recreational programs and activities is desired;
- Prepares and maintains athletic fields and facilities for games, rentals, and tournaments; duties include field basing, dragging, chalking, and setting up goals and equipment;
- Assists with facility and park rentals, including unlocking and securing buildings, setting up tables/chairs, monitoring events, and providing customer service;
- Performs general building and parks facilities such as trash pickup, restocking supplies, sweeping, mopping, and janitorial tasks as needed;
- Assists with daily inspections and reports maintenance or safety concerns to supervisors;
- Supports other Parks & Recreation staff with event setup, teardown, and other hands-on operational duties as assigned;
- May assist with registration, phone calls, basic clerical tasks, and operational functions as needed;
- Assists with the monitoring and supervision of recreational activities at various parks and recreation facilities with patrons, instructors, parents and participants;
- Assists Parks & Recreation Staff in other recreational capacities with miscellaneous duties as required.

Requirements
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Prior customer service experience desired
- Self-starter, punctual, attentive to detail, and able to work well with others;
- Must have reliable transportation;
- Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with patrons, renters, and coworkers
- Ability to learn the recreation (Point of Sale) POS system;
- Flexible, energetic, outgoing personality;
- Must be able to speak, read, and write in the English language;
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team;
- Must be able to perform physically active work outdoors in various weather conditions year-round.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or GED;
- Must be a minimum of 16 years of age;
- Valid Texas class C driver’s license is required with a good driving record;
- CPR and AED certified, or able to obtain certification within the first 90 days of employment;
- Willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for rentals and athletic events;
- Positive, professional attitude with flexibility to adapt to changing work demands;
- Basic understanding of reading, writing, and math;
- Ability to take direction and follow safety procedures.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- Good customer service experience and skills are preferred
- Basic working knowledge of a variety of park and recreational programs and activities;
- Preferred bilingual communication skills.

Any work related experience resulting in acceptable and proven proficiency levels in the above required knowledge, skills, abilities, or licensing could be considered as a possible substitute for the above industry specified training or experience requirements for this position.
Summary
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Requires the flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required;
- Working in a high-paced customer service environment at multiple rental sites;
- Demonstrate patience and flexibility in changing job demands and interactions with employees, visitors, and the public;
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and use hands to finger/handle, feel, and reach with hands;
- Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Manipulate and perform good hand, eye, and foot coordination while physically handling objects; good mobility and dexterity;
- Ability and willingness to work as part of a team, to demonstrate team skills, and to perform and execute team responsibilities as assigned;
- Maintain effective working relationships and represent the City in a positive manner at all times while engaged with City staff and Citizenry;
- Work is primarily performed outdoors and includes physical activity such as standing, walking, bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying materials up to 50 lbs.;
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, dirt, and field maintenance materials (chalk, paint, etc.);
- Will be required to work with janitorial chemicals, products, and hand tools;
- May work indoors for facility rentals or perform light office duties as needed;
- Skilled in communicating with the public as to quickly and accurately dispense information orally, in writing, and on the phone with City personnel and the public, at times under emotionally stressful conditions;
- May be required to work immediately before, during, or after an emergency or disaster;
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
