Job Description

The Inn at Spanish Bay Hotel Intern is responsible for the guest arrival experience, working with guests in advance, as well as, assisting guests and day visitors while they are on-site. As a Hotel Intern, you will facilitate and perform various bookings, requests and procedures daily to ensure we meet our Mission Statement “to exceed the guest’s expectation by providing a once in a lifetime experience, every time”. Additionally, the Hotel Intern may be responsible for greeting guests and oversees dining room reservations in our restaurants.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Escort Guests to their room upon arrival, recommend and assist in booking dining, spa, golf, tours/activities, transportation etc. Effectively balance a high level of multi-tasking of various situations and requests while completing checklists at The Guest Services Desk. Accurately record outgoing and incoming shipping, as well as, frequently lifting 50 lbs. or more.
  • Anticipate the needs of our guests and identify what to best recommend by utilizing their Resort and Monterey Peninsula Knowledge. 
  • Oversee and assist in maintaining cleanliness of outlet. 
  • Describe table settings to busser, whenever set-up differs from the usual. 
  • Ensure coverage of the entrance, greeting arriving guests and thanking those that are leaving. 
  • Assist with special event set-up, such as skirting buffet or inserting menu cards. 
  • Check reservations in book and assign table numbers. Ensure availability for resort guests. 
  • Call to confirm large parties. 
  • Check schedule and staffing levels. 
  • Check all menus for cleanliness and accuracy. 
  • Answer the telephone, take reservations and give directions to restaurant. 
  • Maintain waiting list, select table and escort guests to the table. 
  • Resolve guest problems whenever possible and direct communication with manager. 
  • Answer questions regarding menu items. 
  • Schedule reservations according to established procedures. 
  • Take beverage order and serve drinks when necessary. Provide captain's list when necessary. 
  • Bring guests' needs to the attention of appropriate dining room staff or management. 
  • Complete daily labor report. 
  • Assign stations to wait staff. 
  • Comply with all Pebble Beach Company safety, health and general policies and procedures.

 

Absolutely Required Skills: 

  • Must be able to handle large volume of tasks in a fast-paced work environment. 
  • Must be able to work in a physically demanding environment, such as walking and standing excessively and lifting/pushing/pulling 20-50 lbs. frequently. 
  • Must be team oriented, driven to overcome stressful situations by problem solving and passionate about serving people. 
  • Ability to oversee the efficient seating and scheduling of guests. 
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in stressful situations and stand for long periods of time. 
  • Excellent customer service skills. 
  • Minimum of one-year experience as a host in a high-volume restaurant. 
  • Food safety certification required. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

 

Desired Skills: 

  • Knowledge of the Pebble Beach Resorts and the Monterey Peninsula. 
  • Knowledge of Springer Miller System, HotSOS, Microsoft Outlook and Excel. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and POS systems helpful.
